Staking at a markup of less than 1.0

Twice now, I have backed players at a markup of less than 1.0 only for them both to cancel. I can understand them cancelling, but can anybody explain why they would offer a markup of less than 1.0 in the first place ?

I am going to speculate that they won a Free Ticket to the Tournament and are offering some action at a discount as a bit of an incentive to sell some of it and convert a portion of the Free Entry into Guaranteed Cash in their pocket.

If I ever won a expensive ticket for a tourney I would do the same . In order to attract potential interest I would try to sell cheaper the ticket . Much cheaper than other players if possible .
