The vast majority do not play poker to win the most money. In fact, the vast majority do not play poker to win money at all, let alone "the most."
Oh, don't get me wrong - we all like to win, hope we will win and surely anticipate doing so each time we buy chips.
But you know, I don't really think that winning money is why so many millions play.
Money is the reason why people play. Whether it is the hope of winning or actual winning, it is the money, IMHO.
People like taking a break from their 9-5 routines to "live a little" Living a little means taking some kind of risk with possible reward.
this is why I am so fascinated by RISK: the desire for it is something every human has in his/her nature.
If you think about it though merely existing in this world is a risk in and of itself: at any time, in this world, anything could happen. You could walk out your door and come home a millionaire....or you could walk out that door and never come back again.....
So poker is risk, life is risk, and so life is poker....this is why people play....but you take money out of the equation and where's the risk? The wagering is what makes risk so enticing....
