Actually it isn't just an 'assumption so far'. There's been documented cases (read my post above) where 'after the fact' guilty parties even openly admitted that they were doing this, claiming 'ignorance' at the time. They even advertised it.
(google search MaxKatz (well-known russian backer) & get out your google translator & check out some of the Russian poker forums. You might be in for a surprise!)
I'm sure there's been many like this (could also try searching out Sorel Mizzi as there's documentation of AIM chat where he's attempting to make plans with other players in attempt to set up a ring of this nature).

Yes in the case made above it is an assumption. Nothing is proved the poster is assuming there were better players involved.

Yes there are documented cases of collusion, particularly by the Russkis, as I pointed out earlier in this thread, referring to the relevant discussions at CC. Yes we have been through all that before.

So read the thread before leaping please.

yah.. that's an excellent comparison!!
Nude (< who cares) & 'Cheating'. I just can't see the difference???

Hope you get booted off the sites (wouldn't be surprised if ur name & this thread hasn't already been sent to support)

OP did not say he was doing it, was referring to the fact that lots of people do it and the TOS is unenforceable, hence the comparison to nude poker and collusion. Both are largely undectectable online.

Nasty sentiment to end with, but as you know, Stars has one recognized rep in this forum, and others we don't know of, and am sure they have seen this discussion.

Let me make it clear that this isn't a practice I indulge in, as Makwa has been kind enough to point out. I'm trying to understand whether there's a real rule in "Internet Poker" against a player hearing (not necessarily even taking) advice from someone not in the game. Are we like tennis players, who are allowed no coaching from the sidelines? Or are we like football players, whose coaches throw the plays in and they follow instructions? And what sense does it make to ban something that is widely practiced and can't be detected, unless you can get people to pee in a bottle after winning like the Olympics? Thus my reference to drug legislation, which was in no way an endorsement of using, which not only fails to stop people from using drugs but by its very existence creates extra-legal forces to meet the demand and get super wealthy in the process. In other words it's useless and counter-productive.

Pardon me. I'm sitting here at my computer playing poker online. A friend drops in. He watches. He's not allowed to comment? I'm not allowed to listen? Give your heads a shake, people. It's like prohibition. It's ineffective and dumb to outlaw things that you can't stop or control and that a large segment of the population is doing. Makes no sense. It's something like saying "smoking marijuana is illegal and if you're stoned you can't play poker because you got that way illegally."
Excuse me. I'm deep in wsop MnEv. A friend (NedsLobsterFry) is sitting close by on the rail. He watches. I have a special surgically implanted hearing device, undetectable to the human eye. He's not allowed to comment to me? I'm not allowed to listen? This sounds ineffective & dumb to outlaw this if there's a bunch who are using it & they're not able to detect it.
also, HGH is cool... but steroids.. no f'n way man!

YES!!! One. Player. To. A. Hand. How many times do people have to tell you it's a rule in any form of poker?

It's even more useless and counter-productive to not re-inforce this as a basic tenet especially in a form of poker which attracts so many new players. I want my poker sites explicitly stating this is cheating, doing everything they can to catch cheaters and making sure every player knows they're risking severe penalties if they get caught, even if it's highly unlikely they will. If it dissuades even one player from crossing the line into cheating, it's worth it.

IMO, poker is not a 'team sport' .... especially if the opponent is not aware that he is playing against a 'team' in any fashion.

Others might say it is commonly called 'collusion' ... which IS in the rules.

******************************

This is not an example of collusion. Collusion is when both people are involved in the game, where practical decisions are made together as a team to effect both players winning percentage. This is just someone watching saying "I don't think he made the full house", or "I think he missed his straight and is value bet bluffing." There is nothing wrong with this, but you should be able to go over all the advice your friends would suggest in your head on your own anyway.

Really? What if your friends names are Sorel, or Shaun F'n, or Mickey, or Steve (or any other number of top players)? It's cool if they suggest what line to take on any hand? Nothing wrong with this?
Do ya think 'Recreational Ricky' is gonna be real motivated to re-deposit to play his big weekend online tournament, only to discover that when he thinks he's up against some other 'Rickys' as he goes deeper into a tournament, he's actually up against a team of top online players (or a group of friends discussing hands while the one guy's playing). I doubt it. Pretty sure he says 'fk it' & heads to the casino instead.
