If poker helps distract you from your negative thoughts it can be useful.
Stay in the moment and don't let your mind wander into the past.
My brother-in-law has depression and he finds doing scientific research, his key distraction.
Remember you may be in the manic phase of your depression and that is why you are enjoying poker so much.
Keep in touch with your doctor and stay safe and healthy.

I can't stress enough to say how much therapy helps with that. Depresssion is a very serious condition, and keeps one from living a balanced life and enjoy the wonders of the world. Depression is tricky, so better leave it to specialists to deal with, you will thank yourself.

I am diagnosed with a couple mental health issues. Depression and Anxiety being 2 of them. Poker helps me as well, but be careful. Ive noticed when i have a good day I play very well. On bad days I just bleed $. Focus and concentration are huge in poker,we all know that. If you know your heads not all there for poker.....don't play.

I am glad that poker is working for you but, as others have said, it can have a reverse effect when you are on a downswing. I would be careful to be remain aware of how the game is affecting you and stop when appropriate.

I'm assuming from your photo your an empathetic sort of person and you are satisfied from the company and then being able to apply yourself around so many people makes you feel good, as long as you recognise that need and don't confuse it with the gambling emotions/responses you can continue playing. Don't get carried away and search for more though what your experiencing is as good as it will get.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc_Jq42Og7Q this is about the manipulation facebook does to promote lower vibratory states, he says something in there about a negative response from gambling that people will continue to seek (consistently losing players).
Might be worth a watch.

thank you, I have been controlling my emotions when I am playing, in my analysis poker has improved my feelings. I'll take the time to watch this video.

Be careful with that, dude. Chance is usually a source of headaches instead of pleasure, but if it is yours, who can blame you, just consider other options more "stable" for your entertainment, and good luck with that stage

There is so many highs and lows playing poker. Your mood can change from moment to moment. If you feel that playing poker helps then I suggest you stick to freerolls. That way if your having a bad at the tables there is no harm, no foul. For me losing money bothers me but money for nothing is right up my ally.

I have depression and I play poker to improve my life. When I'm playing, I forget everything and I feel good!
What is your opinion about people who play poker and have depression?

Difficult life conditions my put you in depression. These conditions may arise due to situations where you find yourself helpless and can't find a way to redress. Health, wealth, emotions or social matters are often involved to produce depression. Since you can't solve the problem so a thinking pattern grows where you repeatedly think of problems and what consequences it may generate.

To get out of depression you need to face the issues constructively but your mind can't think positively due to heavy negative impact of the situations. At that time it is often suggested to take your mind away from the situation at least for some time.

I think playing poker can do that job. Temporarily you are out of the problems and out of depression. And when you come back to your problems you might be thinking differently and probably you can find a solution.

The idea is, if you are surrounded by problems, you will see problems everywhere. But if you see your problems from outside you might come up with a solution which you missed while inside the problem.

I'm a doctoral psychology student. Even though enjoyable activities are encouraged in the treatment of depression, you have to also watch out for whether you are doing things just to avoid problems that are causing depression. It would be best for you to seek help from a professional, so that you can identify the origin of depression, and determine which behaviors maintain the illness and which promote your health.
