Parents advice Is always based on either love or wisdom. So It's always better to take the advice of your parents and not to over look that wisdom of theirs, of-course their are always horrible parents with no wisdom or parents that have no love towards their children, yet your's seem different from that, based on the advice they are giving you.

As stated by others, Poker will be around, and you're still young. So take the parents advice and really think about that which you wish to do. Don't just say you're good at something after 10 games and because you won a free-roll doesn't mean nada (not trying to be rude), but everyone has won a free-roll 1 time or another but that doesn't mean they have a "Talent" for the game, just means they won a free-roll and nothing else.

Last note I'd like to leave you is this. The Car+College money is more for you now than poker funds can do for you at the present. The goal to which you have a better chance to actually accomplish is getting that car+money for College from your parents than you would from actually winning a 100+k score (Not saying It can't happen)+you got to take into the actual fact that you actually are only 16, so even on the off chance that If (Big If), you won 100+k you more than likely wouldn't even see that money since you actually had no right to gamble in the first place. So all roads lead back to the only route that you have and that's College+Car, and to achieve that you must listen to your parents

This is the best advice you'll find here. Finish your education higher as you can then decide what will you do. Thing is, only the very few of the luckiest guys got rich with playing poker. Poker is good as a side thing in your life. Cheers

I am one of the only players here that will intimately be familiar with your problems, as I am a 16 year old poker player that has found success with the game. My suggestion to you is this... If your parents don't support it, don't play for money. Study. Study. Study. Study. Study. Study and study more. When you turn 18 you and I both can bust up casinos with the knowledge U gain over these years. Good luck to you

PM me if you have any questions, I'm happy to help out

Poker will be around when your 21 listen to your parents and worry about school and getting into college. You may love poker but you should have a plan B which will be education.

There seems to be a common theme on the majority of the responses. Here are my thoughts on your situation. Look at it from your parents eyes. I'm sure that you can see how they would consider poker, as gambling, and if your parents were anything like mine, there is nothing that you will be able to do to change their minds. NOTHING. So just accept it, and turn it into a poker lesson. If you can learn to control your emotions, and be disciplined enough to listen to your mom and dad, they are teaching you how to handle one of the hardest things to over come in this game. They are teaching you how to handle tilt. If you take the time to go through CC, how many times is there someone asking how to deal with tilt? Your parents are teaching you the most valuable poker lesson, by temporarily taking it away from you.

If you are going to be a poker player, there is nothing that your parents will be able to do to sop it. Deep down inside they know that. So give them a break, and let them be mom and dad for a couple more years. Later on down the road, I'm sure you'll look back at this and get a good laugh, about the time you asked for advice from a bunch of degenerates. lol

Degen livin' and loving it!!!!

Poker can be a study in itself. Why not do a research paper on it?
That way you can "prove" that poker is not just pure gambling.
You could not only show them that their reasoning is flawed but that you can also complete academic requirements on your own.
Sort of like killing two birds with one stone, lol.
Ps. Good luck and don't tell them you heard that from me.

There are many kids ('millions') who would love to have the oppurtunity & support you have to attend school but most will never get that chance. I'm sure they'd dream of being able to have a 'problem' like your's.

Not being able to play poker while getting a free roof over your head, a car & tuition seems like a small price to pay. You can't even play anyways.... you're underage! Play some homegames with friends during spare time (my friends & I used to play regularly since we were 9 & 10yrs. old)

I'd also guarantee that you're nowhere near as good as you think you might be (or have potential for). Getting good at poker takes ALOT of work,... & in some ways is similiar to school (if one hopes to excel). Maybe you can practise that discipline by going to school??

Hopefully you'll get so into school, you won't even have the desire to play poker anymore.
