Topping off? So, every time I'm playing at a cash game table, lets say .25/.5nl, i always see people buy in for maximum and then when they lose a hand or even when they lose a blind, they top it off again. My question is.. is there a benefit to doing this? Also, is it bad to not play without buying in with max?

re: Topping off? poker 2 possible scenarios of the same hand. I have 100 BB and AA on the button. SB has 110 BB and AKo. I have a pretty loose image at the table. I just lost a big pot and could seem tilted..... I raise to 3 BB, SB 3 bets me 8 BB, I 4 bet 27 BB SB shoves I call. Flop comes 3 7 Js, turn Jd, river Jh. Do the same hand but give me 60 BB. Do the math. Full stacks FTW. You COULD say "But if I only have 60 BB I cant lose 100". But this is very bad thinking DUCY? EDIT. A beginner should perhaps play 60 BB stacks at first, but on the other hand a beginner should not be playing 50nl.

Buying in short or allowing your stack to dwindle robs you of another valuable asset , the threat of what you might bet can be a great tool .I used to play shortstacked and it seemed I would get drawn out on often , it wasn't that others drew out on me any more than anybody else , they just had the odds to draw and there was no implied threat that I would raise .

Hey phonejack, I picked up on this from another CC thread a few weeks back. Now I am buying in for max and keeping topped up and it is making a huge +ve difference. Biggest difference I have noticed is that being fully loaded gives me a lot more tools if I need them. good luck. CuttleFish

re: Topping off? poker I Like this threads thinking. personally iw ould auto top it off too, but some players can lose track of there bankroll if they don't monitor this actively enough. Now imgaine you have 4+ tables open at once and your auto toping things off your bankroll could change consierably without your recilection unless your awefully aware and careful. I still however think the arguement of if you have more you win more is better than if you have less you lose less! but IM a gambler hahaha
