First up, the person saying these things isnt some kind of wizard, so its not a spell and by saying these words, he dosent set off a chain of events which leads to his prophecy becoming true.

So why does he say it?

He says these things to cause an emotional response in you.

If you read these words and react in the manner polite society expects you to, then he causes the exact emotional response he set out to cause and therefore accomplishes his goal.

He wants you to feel bad, and you do.

Switch chat off.. the problem goes away.

I have gone through different phases with player chat. I used to vent, and get mad at comments ppl made at me, then I had chat blocked, and a few others.

Now I have chat on, as it is a good barometer of the maturity, tiltyness and otherwise basic temperament of a player. I personally never say anything anymore, except the occasional NH or WP, if I think it is an appropriate place to do so - and this can come when it WAS a NH or WP as well as a donk suckout - or the occasional comment to get a tilted player to target me (use with caution). But I NEVER chat anymore, (cept in CC games, then I can be a motorchat) and I ignore personal content in chat.

Sure, the comments were low, and I have kids as well, and I would kill for them, but an anonymous insult made by a jackass will not get me riled at all, although reporting this was cool, may get him chat banned. Use his idiocy against him, this is information about him, and information is always good to have.

edit: Just thinking, maybe better to not chat ban him, let him keep showing information, and you keep not showing...... maybe not all that bad after all.................

I do laugh when its 0.01/0.02 micro's and some shortstacker loses his 40cent buy-in, but I've snapped at people before now after getting smashed by 6 7 off or K 2 suited...

If you get steamed every time you lose a hand, poker AIN'T the game for you. Variance dictates that you will lose with aces to trash SOMETIMES.

That said, I've had sessions where by the end I just wanna reach through the screen and punch someone in the face!

Poker (while enjoyable) is a high stress environment, so of course nerves are going to get frayed and tempers lost now and again.

In 4 years I have had one chat ban (for 'racism'. Telling a German player that German players suck ....). However, I've berated more than one guy before now. I told a chap to drive his car off a bridge once. Do you think that upset him? Or made him, I dunno, drive his car off a bridge?
I'm constantly getting reminders from tilt to curb my language if I write 'omg, bullsh*t' in the chat box.... who cares about a few choice words?
If you are easily offended, switch off the chat dude.

I can't believe this chat has grown to 3 pages! Look, the individuals who spew venom through chat are getting outplayed and don't have the mindset to understand what is happening. None of the pros [maybe with the exception of Phil Hellmuth] go off on someone after a bad beat. They are understanding and mature enough to walk away and take it as a learning experience.

For everyone who said turn chat off, I would hesistate on doing that. I find chat useful when you want to commend another player or make an observation after a hand. I know it's not live play but when an unknown person makes a compliment to me after playing well, it feels good. I think people in society need to compliment others more and there's no reason to leave out a poker game from complimenting someone.

But I have this problem with the people who get offended so easily, and find them just as offensive as the original offenders, and when they gather in a group, they become way more offensive.

Good example is the anti-smokers, who complain about me smoking and some BS about it affecting their physical health. Never do they realize how they are messing with MY MENTAL HEALTH.

I had this sort of thing happen to me at stars once, now I don't know if they have people watching the tables while you play or not, but within a minute or two a moderator showed up and reminded the table that abusive chat will not be tolerated, the guy took off and left the rest of his tournament chips on the table, a week or two after this happened, I run into the same player and he starts calling me a tattle tale and all this other stuff and I didn't even do anything to get him into trouble, to make a long story short the second time was at a cash table, so the players there pretty much took his money and the guy left and I never heard from him again, it's just to bad that I couldn't get his money at that cash table instead of the others, anyways in this situation I would of had no choice but to report him, you can come after me all you want in chat, but leave my kid out of it.

Funny... Not to get another thread started but, IMO the best thing the casinos done were to ban smoking in the Poker rooms...

I got told they hope I get cancer just playing euchre in yahoo no money involved so what does that says about the mentality of some.

I have seen this happen many times, if it is really offensive language I have reported them as well.

Well that's pretty sad, but I've had my share also, cuz of my SN at certain sites, I've been called terrorist/The N (Word)/Monkey/Sand N, was told my entire family was diseased ridden welfare cases that all 12 of us live in a 1 bed Room Apartment just so we could "Scam the Welfare System", lol....But that's also pretty bad/sad

I get some of this BS from my sn as well.

I find I get more upset/annoyed just knowing how many idiots there are out there in the world. it's pretty sad.

I've seen that before. I usually just reply "sick puppy" and leave it at that, although "live long and prosper" might be a good reply, lol.

Next to the "quote" button, there is a square box that has a plus sign on it.. click on each post's plus sign that you want to quote, and when you have clicked the plus sign box on each of them, click on "quote" from the last one that you have selected, and wall-la!

I was playing stud hi/lo yesterday and this guy at the table started saying "crap" after I won a hand, he lost because he had 333 on the flop, so he was saying. He was going on and on about chasing. Imo in a seven card game, especially lo, pretty much everyone is chasing. After about a half an hour of his commentary I reported him. I think if you are playing a fair game you shouldn't have to sit and be berated by an obviously poor loser. I have seen things said online I would think I would never see in a live game, either way it is unacceptable so don't hesitate to report them. Have you noticed that the "BIG MOUTHS" are the ones who lose do to their own bad plays?

right click their name and then player notes and mute and you never see their chat again .
