5 Card Draw

I started playing 5 card draw at pokerroom. Does any one have any good strategies or starting hand and betting articles or anything?

I suggested someone write an article to add to the CC collection, but noone wanted to...

I'd love to see a CC-written article on it; although it's a less popular game now, and so fewer people know good strategy on it.

I think it'd be great if we had a basic strategy article for all the most common games out there. 5 card draw has really lost popularity since holdem got big, but it's still a great game.

Hopefully this link doesn't qualify as spam , as I am trying to help another member out.

I found this article for you. For better or worse, it is at least a starting point from which to customize your own strategy. My disclaimer is that I haven't used it myself as i rarely play 5 card draw.

Check it out and see what you think.

I've started reading Doyle Brunson's Super System which has quite a substantial section on draw poker by Mike Caro. Bills itself as not aimed at beginners, but with "advanced" techniques. Seems to be mainly oriented towards playing with the Joker, although in PokerRoom it's without the Joker. But it's probably worth a read.

It's been a while since I've played any 5 card draw, It's one of my favorites though. I'm not an expert at it but I used to do well in the 25cent pot limit games on pokerroom. You realy have to pay atention to what everyone is doing and make sure to watch the draw to try and get all the info you can. But watch out for peoples tricks. I like to start with a pair of 10's or better and I usualy come out betting(not so much with the 10's). If you are dealt trips you can draw only 1 card to make them think you have 2pair or a draw but you need to make sure to mix it up a bit. Be careful with a low set, these can lose you alot of money if you're up against a higher one. If your dealt a pair of A's raise them, you probly have the best hand. Same goes for K's and Q's. Just watch how everyone else acts and you should do fine.

Do you play limit or PL? I've only ever played limit a couple times in home games, don't care for it much.

Get Super System 1 and read Mike Caro's excellent section on 5-card draw. He gives you odds galore and interesting strategy tips.
