Hi I have been playing poker for around 4 months now for real money but previously played for about 8 months with just play money for some fun and have only started playing online poker for the past month, the previous 3 I went to the casino occasionally(round 4 or 5 times) and played live.
The first time I doubled up, the second time I went I made the newbie mistake of falling in love with A K on my last hand before I left and ended up losing my winnings, but still broke even. So wasnt too bad. The third time I went I got rivered in an all in scenario on my 3rd hand of the night. Well then the last 2 nights I went to the casino for poker I ended up losing as well by the end of the night. I realized that even though I went to the tables with the maximum buy in, I would be up against guys that have been there all day playing and there chips stacks would be literally 15x mine and could put the pressure on very easily. Its like being sat out in a tournament the whole time, then coming in short stacked in the late stages. You can only afford to chase a couple times, then you only got two moves, all in or fold. Anyway so after the initial losses of live play, I decided to try the low stakes world of 10/25 cent online play. Which I have to admit the first time I deposited I was doing very well, I could come into a room with just $5 and come out with $80 and very pleased with myself lol. But then after my first initial wins its been all down hill, consistently either getting donked out by someone calling an all in on the flop(rainbow, without hitting, he had no straight draws, no nothing) with K 4 off against my pocket Q's and them getting running cards on the turn an river, then having the nerve to laugh at me saying they got skills. Or ill get pocket K's and they'll have pocket A's or my very last hand before posting this was we both flopped a set, which has happened so many times to me in the past couple weeks that it goes against all the odds. I don't want to make another bad beat post, far from it, I just want maybe some helpful advice from you more skilled players if this sounds familiar to you when you were first starting out in online poker? I am far from a expert player and just looking to learn, but I feel I should have abit of a bank roll by now and I am down quite a few hundred from all my NL holdem endeavors. Is it time to quit? Thanks guys |

You need to do some research .. sounds like your getting into to many hands ... It's great when your cards are hot (esp flops) .. But you can go broke paying to see that many flops and/or end up playing marginal hands that your odds are not good in.

You haven't been doing it long enough to give up. There's loads of information available here on bankroll management, how to be a better player etc. Read up, ask lots of questions, buy some books maybe, post some hand histories in the Hand Analysis section. Soak it up like a sponge, meanwhile keep trying out all the different things you're reading about, until you find things that work for you. You will get there, it just takes time...

re: Is it time to give up online poker or persavere?
Hi thankyou all for your replies, I defiantly will stick with it. Could anyone tell me of some great resources/books I should get my hands on. Also I heard people talking about software that could buy to help me along with my Bankroll management? I think it was called Poker Tracker 3..Is this the best?
