Poker Bots?!

I'm pretty new to online poker, so I've been trying to research and read as much as I can. Somewhere along the line I read about these "Poker Bots", like the Poker Cash Maker. Has anyone used it (or anyother similar poker bot)? What can you tell me about it (or them)? Thanx.

I've "hear" that they do make "money" by playing perfect mathematical poker. Of course, they don't bluff or take into account others bluffing.

They also are "not fair" and "not allowed."

"not fair" and "not allowed"? Why the quotes? It's cheating, plain and simple.

I think a bot could tear up a limit table, but a NL table is a whole other story.

I think there have been a few winning bots that basically just use position to their advantage and consistently cbet.

The time a robot can beat me in poker is the time I need to give it up. NLHE forces you to take into account past actions, betting patterns, etc., not something a bot can take into account. They are illegal and they are cheating, but I'm not worried about them, I figure just another completely predictable opponent.

If you need a poker bot you obviousely need to learn how to play poker better. Poker boys disgrace the game and most of the time are picked up on by the website as they have software to analyze the way the games are played depending on cards hitting the flop and same betting patterns over and over. Also just because a bot is used dont mean you cant win though. Usually if you are up against what you think is a bot you can eliminate them by giving them terrible pot odds. Usually they will fold when you overbet it. Regardless you and anyone else who uses a bot is trying to cheat others and ruin the game for everyone. Sorry to be a ass but I hate cheaters and anyone who needs someone or something else to get the edge over others. Play the game right or dont play at all because you more then likely are not good enough in the first place.

Wouldnt that be something a bot would be good at? keeping records of past betting patterns and making decisions based on that?

that being said, bots are cheating, even though I could care less if i had to play against one

Well, thanks for all the input ... I think. (smile) As I stated in my question/post (clearly, I thought), I'm a total newbie so I don't really know what these bots are all about. So this has been a mini-education. (unluck79 - chill, dude!) Thanx again.

Interesting article from a leading tech publication interviewing a bot-developer (from 2005).

For Emp:

I know "bots" are cheating, but once I start using "quotes" I can't "stop."

Let me put it this way, bots can't think, they have to rely on an algorithm. No computer code necessary, please write me an algorithm that you think could beat a team of good, winning poker players (not even pros) that includes past actions. You have access to every single HH, please use simple English to let me know how this bot would use past information to tear up the table? I don't think you can do it.

As I said, most bots are good at stealing money from the usual idiots who play online poker. They try to keep pots small, steal from people who'll let them and stay away from better players without close to the nuts. The complaint I've heard about bots is they take money off the fish that other people could be winning, not that they can actually beat someone good.

Also note that the playing with an algorithm isn't illegal, and using all that information isn't illegal (PA HUD anyone?). The point is that it's playing for a person, and the person doesn't have to do anything. If instead of writing a bot, someone paid another player to play and gave him instructions on exactly how to play (the algorithm he would have programmed into the bot) there would be nothing illegal. But since a bot can make money while a person is doing something else, it is deemed (and rightly so IMO) illegal.

in all truth bots are not going to win as much as u think
bots have been set up for rake back
think about the possiblities if u have 3 bots 7tabling at 1-2nl
the amount of rake is equal to something like 30K$ a year from EACH bot account!! that is huge

My last post was little bit harsh and for that I apologize. Just stating that bots are indeed overrated and play the percentage game very well. But they usually fold when the pot is overbet as there odds greatly diminish on winning the hand. Nothing beats mind power and the phsycological player as getting into the persons head beats any bot any given day if you use your wits correctly. Go out and win some money for the team!!! CC that is.

I personally think that in micro limits (and only in micro limits!) bots actually can show a reasonable profit (especially when 20-tabling etc.) - which is exactly why they are illegal.

What I can assure to the author, though, is that bots are nowadays very quickly discovered and the accounts (together with the balances) will get frozen rather fast.

It's far more profitable to learn the game of poker and make the money without breaking any rules. After all - there's no such thing as easy money and never will be!
