distraction

question for experienced players. players that have seen situations b4 and pretty much know what there gonna do (most of teh time) without much thought. (most of the time)

do you think having a tv beside the computer you watch while your playing cards is holding you back?
Do you think listening to music while playing does the same?

should it be like a library no distractions...and give 100 percent of your attention. ?

im sure other people do it im just wondering if any of you have had better success when you turn the music and tele off

well i listen to music while i play and i find that it helps me with my play
it helps me melo down after a bad beat and i dont mind listening to tunes while im trying to make decisions
but i find it quite distracting to have the TV on while on the computer playing ppoker, this actually affects my play in a bad way

nice question tho

ditto on the music, I've never tried with a TV though. I would think trying to watch TV and play would be a bit distracting. Since you're not trying to listen to anything, I see nothing wrong with music. TV on the other hand occupies your eyes at the same time, which should be focused on playing.

Watching TV, having others in the room, MSN, web surfing really affects my game play in a bad way. I usually play with music, it helps.

lol, I'm in a college dorm usually playing, so when I play in the common room sometimes someone will watch over my shoulder for a few minutes. It's hilarious how many "you folded that???"'s I hear. I don't want to spend a lot of time explaining that A9o UTG is not a good hand and that 33 does not warrant pushing all the way all-in just because I have a pair.

if someone says why i didnt push all in with pair of 33's, i say
" u want to a heads up game for 200$"
then i proceed to take his money and ask for another game
and if he pushes all in with 33 and i win the hand, i say "thats why,now give me ma monies"

Yes, I was really excited when I got here and found out that a ton of kids in our dorm played poker at home, said most of them played 50nl. Then we get about to start and everyone wants to buy in for $5, one asks if we're doing 1 or 2 blinds, and we get the kid wanting credit for his 6-card straight. So you can imagine hearing people like that asking why I'm folding so much lol. Fortunately at least there are enough people on campus that play to have a weekly game, but this is all 4 years plus a grad student and another kid who already graduated and just has a house within a minute of campus. Oh well, I'm getting a lot better playing online and there's plenty of people to talk with who understand poker here .

lol if only they had that much money. One kid actually challenged me to a $20 HU match and I accepted so fast only to find out he was just kidding, he thought 20 was WAY too much to play for just one HU and that I'd never in a million years say yes lol.

ok well im not a rich man but if anyone challenged me to a heads up match for 20$, i wouldnt just play 1 game, ill play till he dies of starvation
heck if im in university and someone challenges me to a 1K game im saying yes, these ppl feel they know the game but really havent played enough hands to really understand probabilities, they dont know odds and implied odds, the have no clue what LAG, TAG means and im sure they dont know what equity is either

And all that means that heads-up you're going to have to get lucky because when they go all-in with 33 you're going to have to catch with your AK. You can forget about bluffing because on a board of 6789K they'll call you on the river with J8. Better get an agreement to play 2 out of 3.
