Hi sng thread. I pretty much gave up on sng's again last month. All I will be doing this month is playing around with step sng's and trying to earn tickets to play tournaments. Have done well in them so far - but not in the tournaments I use the tickets for lol. I might get a wild hair once in a while and throw in a set of sng's for old time's sake. Good luck to all of you!

Ugh...not an auspicious start to the year. Between playing like a donkey and numerous coolers I am down $70 or so. Looking forward to getting home and back to my normal computer so I can multi-table and whatnot again. This laptop has caused a few misclick errors and lag issues in addition to limiting me to one-table. Goal-wise: 1) play lots, try to hit 250 MTSnGs and a handful of MTTs 2) have productive, mistake-free sessions 3) miss fewer +EV spots, even if they're marginal ones; especially look for re-shove/3bet spots 4) do more hand/session review, post more in HA, selectively review complete SNGs start->finish. and possibly...5) track/note players while doing session review for future profit and maybe even develop a more stream-lined note system

Now that I am settled in at my new place, I am ready to hit the tables again full force. My approach will be different this month, as I will multi-table turbo SNGs for a few hours a couple of nights a week. My goals this month: 1. 100 SNGs 2. At least break even for the month, as I am focusing on handling volume. However, this being my 666th post, I would like to make a pact with the devil for the month. If I run good, I promise I will spend my profit on something frivolous and potentially damaging to myself. So please, let me win all my races this month.

I guess this is a good spot to ask...at what point are people shoving ATC from UTG? I'm talking about late in MTSNGs when you still have 7-9 handed tables but many stacks are <10bb. Earlier I shoved Q5o UTG 8-handed as the blinds had jumped from 500/1k/100 to 600/1200/125 and I had ~7500 chips. Is that stack still large enough to just fold and wait for SB/BTN time to steal? I notice that late in these tournaments you seem to not get all that many opportunities to steal as other stacks are always finding a shove instead of folding to your BTN.

re: ***January SNG Thread*** poker Didn't get a chance to get on here last month, was crazy busy with work. January is shaping up to be the exact opposite so at least I'll be able to play at a civilised hour. - Play lots - *shrug* - Profit - Unlock Ironman end of year bonus for more profit

I guess the first thing I have to do is take the first step 1) admitted that I am powerless over rush poker and that my bankroll has become unmanagable!! just kidding lol Have not played solid sngs for a couple of months now sporadic play starting games when I truly dont have time to play then donking off.gonna pull moshman back out and start building again starting at the full ring2.25s at the tilt

In your particular scenario though I would skip the UTG shove there with Q5o and 7 behind and looked to shove from the blinds with only 1 or 2 players in the pot. |

Well, didn't play that many ST-SNG yet. Though, of few of them, I finished first in the only 2 I played at , if I remember well, $16,50 at stars, so I must have done something good (instinctly). Now lacking time during the week to play MTT's I decided to give it a shot in the STT's, read Moshman, and started just a few hours ago, playing 3 STT for 6,50. Finished 9th, 3rd an first. However ,this not being an indication at all, I'm to go playing these at least the whole month. Try to play about 100-200 of them, to see where I stand. Further, read Moshman again and get the pushbot in my head. In case I don't do that bad, purchase SNG-Wizard and continue playing STT.

re: ***January SNG Thread*** poker @jilly - I hadn't exactly missed a lot of spots for shoving. That hand is from a turbo 180, average stack at the time was ~12000, so I wasn't criminally low compared to the field. Mainly I've been in these spots lately because I get no opportunities to shove once the tournaments get down to 4-5 tables. It's been rather frustrating really...to get dealt hands perfect for steal-shoving in the SB/BTN/CO area only to see a short-stack in UTG or UTG+1 push their chips in. I'm actually curious if there's some good strategy I'm missing...like, should I be stacking off really light in these spots if it seems like the whole table is just waiting to ship their stack on ATC if it's folded to them? Just seems like once these things get to the nitty gritty of final 3-5 tables someone is all-in by the time it gets to the CO every time.

For this month: - Get out of my 300 games break-even (little downswing) period - Further analyse and improve my game - Play 200 STT's, minimum of 12 a session December I made very good volume but only little profit. I hope things will go upwards again, I almost can't remember what it feels like to make steady profit. Though it shouldn't be hard for me to make profit since my game has improved and you can't be running break-even/ down forever. I wish you all good and (hopefully) profitable poker this year grinders!

re: ***January SNG Thread*** poker I don't know what I was thinking when I said 100 tournaments. That's like 3 a day and I don't multitable. Right now for me it's about locking up my play style and taking care of any leaks. So far though I'm off to a good start. 5 games done over the last couple of days and I finished first in my last 3. Of course, this is far too small of sample to not say it's just that I'm running hot or lucky or both.

PS. Is the absurdly aggressive table I've been seeing late in these 12/180's the norm or just bad draws on my part? It seems waaay too common... |
