So coming next month my local casino is running its’ normal bi/tri annual poker tournament. One of the new events they added this time is called an escalator tournament that lasts three consecutive days the weekend prior to the main event.

I’ve played escalators before, a long time ago before the Hold ‘em craze hit. It’s a 7 card stud game with 2 cards dealt, one card of the players choice voluntarily flipped over – high showing hand has the bring in and every betting round one additional card must be flipped over. Your low card is wild as are any pairs.

Is an escalator tournament the old school stud game I described above? If not; what the hell is it?

That game sounds like it would be interesting to play. Good luck when you play it.

I still don’t even know what it is. I asked all around the casino yesterday and everything, no one knows – dealers, floor men, nobody.

On the event list sheet it says “No limit Hold ‘em “Escalator” Day 1A.”

Maybe this is just a normal multi day tournament, but if you look at the same sheet and the main event of the 2-week tournament period the very next weekend it doesn’t say “escalator” and I know that’s a multi-day event.

I don’t think it’s Stud Escalator – but I don’t know what the hell it is either.

Never heard of escalator before, but how can it be a stud event when it says NLHE. It will probably be a normal game of Hold em, but with a difference in blind levels or something.

No, the name of the tournament is Colorado Poker Classic (CPC). It has the standard two week + build up to the main event; this one has 33 events in that time period.

Here’s the link:

It’s kind of funny because the casino has just come under new ownership and one hand apparently not talking to the other – no one that I know, knows what an Escalator tournament is! LOL!

Well, I got the escalator thing figured out!

The blind levels start at 5 min and increase by 5 min every round, 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40…etc…

So this is all in past tense since I just got busted a few hours ago – nonetheless – this was pretty fun, I liked it. Never heard of it before but am glad I played it.
