What is your most profitable tactic or strategy that you use

Hi all, I was just wondering if any1 has any tips on profitable plays, whether it is on a certain board, or against certain opponents. If anyone has some great examples that would be appreciated. Does not matter whether it is advice on cg's,mtt's or sng's.

That question is very very general so all I can do is give very general anwers.

• Never limp unless you REALLY have odds
• Have a plan for every stage of the hand
• Accept variance
• Cbet loose/passive stations
• Identify loose/agressive maniacs
• Isolate in position
• Don't slowplay the non nuts
• Get rid of marginal hands preflop
• Value town sets
• Tighten up in early position
• Play against the grain of the table (loosen up on nitty table, tighten up on loose tables)
• Bankrollmanagement
• ICM calculations
• Get the numbers straight, learn the odds
• Learn to put opponents on ranges
• Learn patience
• Post hand histories of hands you're not sure about

I would say that two of the things that really helped me stop being a complete fish were positional awareness, and exploiting limpers. When someone limps and you can isolate them in position, its like a license to print money. Lesson here:

NEVER OPEN LIMP.

Very general question, so I'll provide very general tips.

1. Raise or fold. Very rarely just limp/call.

2. If it's good enough to call with, then it should good enough to raise with.

3. [In SNGs] If you're not getting caught shoving with marginal hands a lot, you're not shoving enough.

4. Never be afraid to lose.

Best advice I can give is don't ask general questions.

I think he's looking for some fancy plays he can make in certain situations , like the squeeze play or spots you're always looking out for , so you can make a certain move .
but all good advice given

1) Not chasing losses.
2) Understanding that when it's not my day, to walk away from the table.

Basically everything related to playing poker comes under that umbrella lol. I think four things that would be a good start would be:

Patience
Hand Selection
Putting opponents on hands
Reading board textures

Even these are general topics with a lot of subtopics withing them.

All great tips. I would just reiterate the importance of patience and position.

Try to be in control of every hand you play.

I would say for starters tighten up your opening range a bunch and tighten way up your cold calling range.

Don't have rules like for ur play. Figure out what is the most optimal way to play vs. The villains at ur table.

Intersting that no one mentioned folding. Knowing when to let it go is one of the most important skills of a good player and the main reason I'm not a good player.

Yeah, knowing when to fold will save you a lot of money.
This is still (besides of ther things) one of the important rules for me to learn.

Thanks guys for all the great advice. I know this post is very generalised but i thought it would be a good post for every1 to get involved with. I would say that i find slow playing a set on a rainbow flop against an opponent is one of he most profitable plays i have come across.

In most cases i agree but sometimes in the right situation, i think it is fine to slow play if you think that you can get more money by doing this.

It can be useful if you have an aggrodonk playing after you, if used sparingly

Play bad players. By far the most important thing.

Well, I have to disagree with BrentD22, because I will slow play pocket A's all day long ,I've played them every which way possible and lost,so I figure I might as well get as much out of them as possible

Patience patience patience. Seriously, I think I can track every penny lost down to chasing a draw, calling a "bluff" with C rate cards, or other silly maneuvers.

I have made all of my money, tourney's and otherwise by being patient. I never tend to take too many chip leads until the final 10% remain, and it is boring poker but it is profitable.

I end up blowing it all on an inability to run down a draw. Man that is frustrating...

FOLD
