WHAT NEXT!! Ontario (Online Gambling)

Ontario introduced legislation today banning advertising of Online Gambling Sites, I wonder if this is just the start of what the U.S. people are going through today. A whole 1/2 hr on City TV today discussing the pro's and con's of Online Gambling and what it is doing to this country. Not looking good, it'll take time but lets just see where this is heading.

Great, just what we needed to hear. I can't really see it getting to the point it has in the USA though. My buddy Stephen Harper would never let that happen!

I actually know one the MPs in Harper's cabinet, so I will start the complaint emails right now!!

I don't think it's that severe either, afterall it's just advertising. But, it will stir up alot of conversation in the next little while.

I hope you guys dont have to go through what happened here in the US,,, I really dont see the big deal with allowing online poker,, i think its legal in the UK,, not sure though,, GL you guys up North,,,, buck

Not too happy to hear this at all, but maybe we'll follow the UK and legislate online poker.

In this past week here in manitoba there have been two different storie's of how: 1. A young boy was locked in a wooden shed then the shed was set on fire by a few kids who were no older than 11 yrs old.
2.two 11 yr old boys held a girl down, doused her with lighter fluid and set her on fire.
In both cases, the boy is alright and the girl suffered a few burns but will be fine. Because of the ages of the kids all that can be done to them is a stern talking to by police and their parents.
Our children need the most help and our governments are worried about online gambling? pardon my french but THIS IS REALLY ****ED UP!!!

I believe that that our gov't is more concerned about people becoming addicts. The more exposure the more people will be tempted to play and we all know some people just can't stop! I think eventually every country will regulate their own casino sites to make profit. Either way it will work out in the end.

Everytime i hear a story about somebody being a addict, or claiming to be an addict after they steal from there company, they have used the money in a real and regulated Casino, like Foxwoods near me,, so to me thats just a cover up for them, they steal then they blame it on gambling,,, and Nobody has any proof that they gambled it,, its just there word, who knows, maybe they just spent the money on clothes or trips,, its all a lot of bull, i know a guy whos a gambling addict and he lost his business, Not on the internet but by going to the Dog races in Raynham, Ma. and Foxwoods,, hes 2 years older that me,, hes 63 and should know better, but that was His Choice, Nobody elses, so why should we suffer for people like that, it was his stupidity>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> buck

I agree Buck!! It's amazing how the gov't does things. They know how many alcoholics there are but they continue to sell alcohol with no restrictions. They would never ban that.(think how much money the gov't would lose), but instead they put rehab centers in arms way for everyone and they pay for your treatment. Not quite the same with gambling, they don't get all the profits, so they want to ban it. There's treatment there for those individuals who seek help. So leave us occasional online gamblers alone. It's my money I broke my back all week working, they already took my taxes from my pay check. Let me do what the hell I want with the rest.

You are referring to a single incident. I'm not talking about people being blamed for anything. My point is that most towns and cities in Canada do not have a gambling casino in them. Thus, my point was that the internet gives everyone an easy to access casino and it is easier to login the computer and deposit money than it is to drive 3 hours to a casino. Your point about your friend losing his business is a good example. Think of how many people will do the same thing with online Casinos, easier access. That is my point.
Think about how many paople you have played poker against and they lost a big hand and went tilt. There are a lot of them and they are the ones that are potential addicts. They lose and think if they try again they will win it all back. Maybe instead of banning poker anything, just ban tilt players! I'll miss their easy money though,
Keep in mind that I am all for online gambling, but ads don't need to flood our tv's about it.

If you don't have a casino I bet there is a VLT in your bar. There are so many placed to gamble if somone WANTS to gable, they will. For me, there is no skill involved so plugging money into a machine doesn't interest me. It's the battle of wits that interest me, not the money (but it's a nice added bonus!)
