Nice post.

Sometimes it's not easy to teach young dogs new tricks as well. Take me for example. My 3bet percentage is too low. I am very aware of this yet no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get it up to the percentage that I would like. It seems that I have a very small 3bet range and it's been very difficult for me to loosen up that range.

Like you said, it takes work, and sometimes more work than what you feel it takes to fix the holes. Another thing to keep in mind is that poker is ever evolving and what might have worked a year ago might no longer work today. New strats arise, new younger, more aggressive players hit the tables everyday, with strats of thier own that we must always try to figure out.

People are creatures of habit by nature, and as I'm sure you are well aware, sometimes it's painfully agonizing to break those habits.

Ok, i'm rambling now. lol. again, nice post, thought provoking, at least for me anyway.

Oh, and as far as the small blind goes, i'm probably the biggest nit in the world from the small blind. The first hand of this video actually hit me hard when I first saw it.

You're supposed to put the hand break on at traffic lights?

The small blind isn't a great stealing position. The BB will pick up on it pretty quickly, and often doesn't give you a lot of credit for your hand.

Of course, if the BB is tight you milk him dry.

I make a point of 3-betting from the big blind when the small blind raises it.

Nice video also (poker after dark), I must get it installed on my tv. A very good explanation from the pro's whilst in action, of how you can get into trouble with aggressive SB play.

You mentioned the changing game, well IMO, nothing is more important than keeping pace. I have had a shock after taking a two year break from playing MTTs. Most of my strategy posts have been on this subject.

The old guy who passed his test when there were still horses and carts on the roads didn't know he had to use the hand break at traffic lights!

If I have the same guy on my right for 20 of my SBs and I fold every one of them, I can assure you it then becomes a stealing position.

If the BB is tight you will be unlikely to get a chance to milk him dry, other players will be getting in first! Making a squeeze play on the PF raiser/caller is allways a steal option, especially if they have been stealing from the BB.

Just a note on blinds, and trust me I suck, but I feel the best way to play blinds is by the numbers, and lets face it the sb is out of position.

As u said,the game is always changing.In all MTT's i thing every player has to have at least 2 differnt styles of play.At the moment i am just trying to perfect the 1 i have .

When u watch these pros,they have 3 different styles and they know when to use which 1.

I see where u are comming from but experiance is golden in this game.i am 37 and i know my game will have to chang with the times so even if u played the right game 15years ago,to day it wont work.And in 15years time who knows

Seriously though, nice post, we are having to adapt, and as I said before, I don't find it easy after a two year break.

I suppose it is a bit like riding a bike, we never forget the rudiments, trouble is we don't see very many Penny Farthing type bicycles any more!

I havent really read anything thats being posted, but to suceed as a poker player requires many skills, one is being able to adapt to the game at hand, one time it may be correct to raise in a particular spot, another time it may be incorrect.

i had a problem with this recently, i had grown up with the big bet theory of playing tournaments.. there are so many players out there with the same style i needed to change and adapt so i could compete. so i started with small ball and its getting me deeper in tournaments and with control i have never had before..

as for raising more from the small blind, its not a play i think it profitable, remembering that if the bb calls you are now playing a big pot out of position, so in essence you are giving him an advantage over you..
