Quickest way to move up Well I'm taking a break from poker. Week or two, just to re-think things. One of which is what to play when I come back. So assume I'm the same skill level in all forms of NLHE, would it be quicker to move up via stts mtts or cash?

I'd say either stts or cash for your regular play but a big win in a MTT is clearly the quickest way to move up. I'm pretty much break-even on the MTTs but this is exactly why I continue to occasionally play them. My thinking is that if I consistently break-even on the MTTs then eventually I'll cash big on one.

Like Aldito said, whichever you're better at. Your assumed skill level at both STTs and cash games could be crap for all we know, in that case you're not moving up in either. Also, one thing I think needs to be pointed out...don't expect to move up quickly. If you're expecting to go from $50 to $5000 in a month, you're going to be sadly disappointed, because it almost absolutely will not happen unless you're being reckless with your money. You want a slow and steady solid game where you are gradually building up your roll bit by bit.

re: Quickest way to move up poker I would imagine cash games are the quickest way to move up, if you're patient... The problem with MTT's is that I just can't seem to stay even there. I lose a MTT, and make-up my buyin in ring games... maybe I should stick to ring games too...

Well, there is no point in assuming you are at the same level in MTT/SNG and cash, just not possible in my eyes. Either you excel in one, or just about breakeven in them all, maybe marginal profits but I woulden't expect the same results for MTT/SNG/CASH. Again, it depends on personal preference and which one makes you more money, for me it's SnG MTT's...

| re: Quickest way to move up poker The quickest way to move up is to find your best game and stick to it. Easier said than done. MTT varience is sick but MTTs/MT SNGs are my game. I'm horrible at cash. When I'm on a good run cashing and making a fair few final tables I find myself thinking "this is easy, I'm gonna make loads of money out of this". Not exactly sure what happens but before long I come crashing down and don't make a final table for a long stretch and lose most or all of what I had won. I think it's a combination of things that cause this:
