Eastgate is no doucher man, he was just stuck in the highlight. It caught up to him. Eastgate is one of the best young gun out there. I welcome his return. He probably now realize that it was a bad mistake to sell that wsop bracelet though.

Never done anything douchey, he sold the braacelet to charity, obv he's heartless. he doesn't owe poker anything lol, the fame and fortune came too quick and he couldn't handle it all, so took a break and is back. I'm glad he is back and wish him the best.

^ As Peter himself explains so well. I was especially moved by this part of his statement:

Last summer I decided that I wanted to stop playing poker and catch my breath and find out who I am and what I want to do with my life. Over the last 8 months I have had a chance to reconnect with my friends and most important, my family. I have spent quality time with my family and really had an opportunity to figure out who I am and what I want to do with the rest of my life. When there is no financial pressure it can sometimes be hard to get motivated to move forward as a person.

Yeah, I don't see what Eastgate has done to be called a douche! Seems like an ok guy to me.

I agree. The guy takes time out, doesn't seem like an ego-maniac like many other poker 'stars' out there, is humble and raises over $100k for charity in his time out. Where do you get 'douche' from??

I don't think he is a douche at all. I think sometimes things get lost in translation because english is his second language, and people think his short sentences and body language give off a bad image, but he is a chill guy. I'm glad to hear he was able to re-evaluate his life and figure out that poker is really what he wants to do with his life, because I think too many young guys just play poker without ever really thinking what a future would be like playing the game. I wish him the best of luck!

I wonder if he will play any cash games with the big boys again. They must be licking their chops when they heard he was back.

I don't think he ever intended to really quit. I mean anyone who wins the main event is pretty much set up for life so why wouldn't you want to quit even for a long break? I certainly would.

I don't think anyone who is successful in poker would ever quit whilst they are still young and enjoy the game.

I understand about being unmotivated after youve won something like the main event...

Hell I can win a couple hundred online and Im unmotivated for a week or so. I cant imagine how useless I'd be after winning millions.

i dont think eastgate is a douche but i think he return bc Stars made him he has to do some televised games and what better that the NBC head up tournament if he wants to be sponsored by the site.

Very good article.. looking forward to seeing him back in the tournaments circuits. And at the WSOP this year.

He done exactly what he needed to. He needed to take a break and live his life. Are you personally offended that he basically admitted he couldn't handle the instant fame and fortune the WSOP win brought him? does he owe anyone, or the poker community, anything? Absolutely not.
Some pro poker players hate the media attention and unwanted fame; they'd rather just play poker,like Phil Ivey. Is he a douche? Nah, thought not.
Outside of poker, take singers for example. How many artists sing about wishing they had it like before, when their career was just about the music, not the money? Sports players saying they would rather just play the game rather than worry about interviews, paparazzi and money.
Why do jealous people make good, successful, but sometimes vulnerable, people out to be the opposite of what they are? Because they are the real douche's.

I'll explain his return in one word: money. He wants to make some more of it, and he probably will.

He went from being a young punk kid to a multimillionaire poker star. Then he cracked. It happens to a lot of celebrities. Poker went from being fun to being a job and he lost the fire. This happens to athletes as well. As for his bracelet, he made the decision at the time, which he might regret, but he did it for a good cause. Go easy on the guy.
