Just got word that the latest proposed New Jersey online poker bill has been Vetoed by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

One of the apparent reasons for this was concern on how the DOJ would interpret such a law as potentially violating the Wire Act.

This is pretty huge news - as once one state had licensed online poker, other states would follow suit. It seems online poker might not be as close to having that happen as previously thought.

I personally do not think state by state legalization is the way to go. With huge taxation and the break up of worldwide liquidity, I highly doubt that will provide for a better playing environment than there currently is.

A statement by Chris Christie is set to follow shortly.

Iowa now also has a bill in their state Senate for online gaming. NJ may end up regretting not being the first state in.
