How bad can varience for HU be? Ok so I was sucked out really bad 2 times back to back HU, the player i played is a complete fish and luck box. So my question is how many times can he suck out on my sets, 2 pairs and being out kicked?

With HU, you and your opponent are playing way more hands than you normally would in a FR or 6Max game(at least you should be), so this is going to happen more often. In a FR or 6Max game, middle pair on the board isn't much to think about when you know you have a couple others in the pot, but HU, you could very well have the best hand, so people will play the hand like that unless something big happens. Also, what are you determining as a suckout? Like you two get allin on the flop while your set or two pair vs his flush draw? Well in those cases you are winning right now, but it isn't like you're up against a 1 outer, 75% with the set and 65% with two pair. Sure, you're happy to get it in with that, but you can't be surprised when that 25-35% comes down, whether it's two hands in a row or two hands in an hour. I'm guessing that there are probably some betting problems on your end as well, but without seeing any specific HH's, that's just a guess.

Well, the varience as you might well know is the highest form in terms of varience. It's common and possible to lose 10-20 buy-ins in a row getting it in as favorite. I lost all my BR playing hyper turbos one evening, but I did tilt and play higher stakes too. If you are ok handling suckouts repeatedly then you will be fine and turn a profit if you are getting money in good. I could most times get money in good, but found I'd tilt to much to make it profitable long term.

Yea usually I am favorite ( Getting a set and pushing, or 2 pairs on the flop.) Most of the time it is just donkness that wins XD my AJ shove vs A7o call... Do not get me wrong, I run into solid hands too. I was just curious as to how much and how bad the varience can truly be. 10-20 BI in 1 sitting... thats a ton. I usually might lose 3-4 sometimes 5 in a row, but anymore than that I am usually getting up and taking a break.

re: How bad can varience for HU be? poker yea i lost my roll about a week ago playing the HU sng's on hero...was crushing them for about a week, tripled my roll through them by winning like 90% of the ones i played..then in a matter of about 10 of them i was done...4 or 5 times i got it allin pre with pair over pair and they hit their set, a couple of times i'd flop top pair and they had middle pair and after getting it allin they spike their trips on the turn, and a few bad calls i made hurt me, but most of the problem is my own tilt...wen i get a ridiculous beat i immediately try to compensate for it and play a higher buyin HU sng...it worked for me quite well for a while but that one day none of my hands could hold up, it was horrible...HU is an evil mistress tho, the beats hurt more than anything else...i hate it but i love it

Variance is the disease in the software writer's mind in poker (video) writing. Why move a player that has beaten out (knocked out) a table when you can reward her/him with the challenge of a 'HU' match? With HU, you either, are a really good bluffer, or have the "nuts" and that's what makes HU so hard to play...
