Candio Vs Cheong - 2010 WSOP Main Event - Crazy hand

So ESPN's broadcast of the 2010 WSOP Main Event has been pretty humdrum to this point. Not really too many interesting hands this year. Then this happens with less than 3 tables remaining:

i saw that yesterday, and to be honest, it is the first time i am happy someone hits runner runner in poker. for some reason i don't know yet i really really hate Cheong. so well done Candio...

I saw this tuesday night when it aired...unfckin believable...especially since i think candio is a complete douchebag....felt bad for cheong

He wasn't celebrating like he played the hand perfectly, he was celebrating like someone who was practically out of the main event in the final 3 tables and suddenly became the chip leader. That's a pretty big deal, it's final stages of the biggest poker event of the year, it's life changing money, I'd celebrate too! I'd have to already be a big name in poker and very rich to not celebrate there. Everybody feels bad for Cheong and I do too, but put yourselves in Candio's place, if you don't celebrate there, you have no emotions.

He would get like 7 flags if that was the NFL

It was an amazing lucky hand...but hey, they do happen!!! And pocket aces do get busted.

Ridiculous. Did he brag once after that bad beat? He was relieved beyond belief because he knew he made a terrible play. He is an emotional guy, can't expect him to bottle all that sudden joy up.

I like both players, but I didn't feel too bad for Cheong because he makes the final table in confortable position despite this hand

Knowing both players made the final table I was utterly shocked to see Candio call. I thought he was folding for sure. Once he called I was like "Major suckout coming up"

I think Candio is a douchebag too, but you can't blame him for reacting that way, he went from making the worst call of his life, to a miracle in the ME.
I like Cheong's table demeanor, and frankly I don't like Asian players as a whole. He didn't whine at all about it, regrouped and made sure he made the nov. 9. He buttons chip leader Duhamel in the BB, so he'll have to be careful. But I think he has a good shot to win it, no bracelets, just a circuit win earlier this year.

You know, thats an easy thing to say but remember that we only see the most exciting hands on TV. We don't know if there we some bluffs earlier that didn't make TV and may have made Candio think his pair was good in that spot. Personally, I think he put him on AK/AQ range and thought his pair was good.

As far as the celebration is concerned, I didn't care for it. I don't like the whole high fiving with your friends after a big hand thing. As Joe Paterno says in football: act like you've been there before. I will say that I thought Candio's celebration was as much relief for getting bailed out of a nightmare situation as becoming the CL at that point.

I like the fact that he jumped around so crazy like. I couldn't imagine how i would do if i was in that hand and that happened. I would be sitting out so many rounds because of my reaction. Cheong just doesnt talk at all and it bothers me for some reason. Racene is my fave.

Candio acted like a douche in other hands earlier in the tournament also. He likes to celebrate and then spout various things in Italian.

Candio needs to learn some respect and restraint. You see just how over the moon Candio was but Cheong feels the exact opposite so put yourself in his shoes. Took the beat very well, especially when Candio is jumping and scream like a cat in the night.

Cheong.. FT sn is subiime. You'll see him regularly grinding the MTTs online & on Fulltilt he's sporting a MiniFtops Avatar after taking down Mini#17 in 2009 for $55k. over $1mil in online MTT winnings... guy is a solid player. Hope he does well!

Cheong seems like a solid player. It's no wonder he made the FT after this bad beat. It seems like everyhand they show he's winning. Except this hand. Candio is a very lucky duck. He plays so weak and seems like he's gotten luckier then any other player this year.

He's been all in like 7 times behind, and catches miracle cards.
The way he talks about this hand with Senti after the fact is also ridiculous.
He makes it sound like he made the right play AND read.

Man, i'm watching this again and i just cannot stand that prick. Isn't there Hevad Khan rule? I thought they banned excessive celebration. It's not about not having any emotions. This guy is just horrible. Nothing else. When I saw Hevad Khan celebrating bad beat, it was QQ>AA pre-flop all-in. It's a bad beat alright but at least it's understandable. Would you or anybody have folded QQ pre-flop?

some bad beats are understandable, such as AA<KK, or overpair vs set where overpair sucks out with higher set, flush draw vs set, etc. I can tolerate those kind of bad beat celebration because their plays are somewhat logical and just unfortunate luck where it's their fate.

But this hand was just plain horrible. he CALLED with pair of 5s. wasn't even a shove. Just looks like a douchebag monkey when he runs around.

I guess it's all down to your definition of "excessive" - however bad you think his play was the guy caught runner-runner to stay alive in the biggest tournament in the world, I think he's entitled to show some emotion. And it's not as if he knocked Cheong out and was dancing on his grave or anything. This isn't what the "Hevad Kahn" rule was intended for IMO.

I like the kid. Personally I think he was still a bit tilted from the hand where he tried to fold and they ruled he had to call. And that was a horrible ruling given that in previous years they've ruled (in televised hands that they made a big deal of) that the chips have to be released for it to be a call and that forward motion alone isn't the normal rule in Vegas casinos.

I saw that last week on espn when it was shown and it was crazy. He had like 10 outs anyway on river but such a big pot with only 5 7 vs AA is crazy. I feel bad for Cheong because if he won that pot he would have had a massive chip lead over the rest of the field.

Cheong is a very good player. However, I hope Michael Mizrachi wins it all.

The fact here is that Candio is a TERRIBLE PLAYER. period. Why would you risk your tournament making that play with a PAIR? We have seen him doing that sh*t all over again, getting the cards in the turn and river, getting runner, runner, etc.

He's a donkey with luck. enough said.

I'm not saying it was bad that he lied, it was another bad call/play for him to make on the river.

Its not like its an easy snap fold, but calling was not the optimal option.
