Bank Roll Management

Hello, I wanted to make finding and learning about Bank Roll Management a little easier for people, so i decided to summarize some things. Mainly I wanted to make the title so when others are searching through the search tool this will come up( because I doubt this will be a sticky).

Most of the information in this post is from "The Ferguson Chalenge" and other members of CC. The information from CC members will be quoted and this will be done because sorting throught the 12+ page of the "lets build a bankroll....whos with me" thread can be stressful to find the info that you may want.

Please post anymore Information that you would seem fits here, please no stats of your BR for that is mainly what the thread of "lets build a bank roll...who's with me" is filled with.

First Ferguson's Input:

For all Cash games and Sit and Go's only use 5% of your Bank roll to buyin or sit down with. For Example if you Deposit 50$ only buy in for $2.50.

For MTT's(Multi Table Tournaments) only use 2% of your Bank roll. Once again if you have deposited 50$ only buy in for $1.

For at any time during a No-limit or Pot-limit game if your Chip count at that seat exceeds more than 10% of your total Bank Roll, stand up and either stop or move to another table with the correct percentile buy-in.

CC members Input:

BR % By Member "BoltNeck"

To work ot your percentages, divide your current bankroll by your starting bakroll, then multiply the result by 100.

(current bankoll / starting banroll) * 100

Example

Starting bankroll = $100
Bankroll at the end of day one $107

107 divided by 100 = 1.07
1.07 multiplied by 100 = 107%

It's your money, use it how you want to. You can read all the bankroll management information and pick the ranges where you are comfortable. Deside where you are going to move up and down so that there is at least a little overlap. For example, say you are going to move up when your buy-in is 5%, e.g., to $4 buy-in when you reach $80. Set for yourself where you are going to move down, say at $70 or at $60. This would work for all levels.

Please everybody, follow some sort of BRM plan. I have gone broke more than once by not following some sort of guidelines. It doesnt have to be the exact same as what was stated above, but those are really good examples. From here on out, I'm following the Ferguson plan

I depends on how much your BR means to you. If it would be a disaster to lose it and you cant afford to redeposit any times soon, then you would need very strict BR managment.

This is the BR management I use.
LIMIT - 500 Big Bets.
NL/PL - 45 Buyins.
SnG - 65 Buyins.
MTT - 200 Buyins.

I see many people using the Ferguson rule, but its just too risky if you really don't want to go broke. If you only have 20 buyins for one level, don't be surprised if you lose half of your BR playing great.

Bankroll management is key. Sometimes you just lose and lose and lose when your running bad. I dunno if I am the unluckiest person in the world but I go on streaks where I take bad beats over and over. Really playing micro limits I think you need a higher than normal bankroll for the higher than normal variance. I deposited 250 last week and now I am down to 117. Just keep losing and losing. Now I have to make sure I am not doing anything but $5 buyins.

i would like to have the bankroll u talk about but the smaller limits are just races not poker untill 2-4 so i hate to play in the 50.-1.00 and 1-2 ring games but overall good article driller1965

for sit and and normal cash game heads up

why because if you play heads up you play 90% of your hands and variance.

I like 100x the buy-in and/or entry fee as a real simple and quick rule. 45 buy-ins for NL isn't nearly enough for me. Losing 10x your buyin in one day in ring isn't impossible, I have done it twice (but, I do still suck at ring). However, FP recently linked to this, which reminds us that more money = less pain.

i wanted to bump this so that more people could post some information for others!

My bankroll management system is simple:

When I move up in limit. I will have mimimum 20 buyins on the new limit. If I loose 8 buyins I drop down in limit......


Usually I can loose about 4 buyins no and than and no its just bad luck...

But if I loose 6 buyins I am in the danger sone. Most likely I am doing something wrong.

If I loose 8 buyins I am 100% certain that I have leaks. (And because of that I have to be punished and move down in stakes.)


An example.. You have 2000 dollar playing NL 100 cash game. You loose 8 buyins ( 800dollar)

Than you have 1200 dollar and have to move down to NL 50.. ( where you have 24 buyins and are OK rolled)


Bankroll is all about your variance. My bankroll system are based on my variance and may be a failure for others.....
