$5K BR ONE SHOT AT A POKER CAREER I am 26 years old, currently in the military...Been playing poker for about 6 years. I will be exiting the military in jan 2012. I will not work or do anything but concentrate on a poker carrer until aug 2012 when i start school back up and start work. My goal is to play poker professional for income but if not thats fine too school and work come august. Finacially im set for not working until Aug 2012 and school everything is paid for already so im gtg. As far as poker I have a 5K bankroll for poker. I im not looking to grind up to 10 k or something like that i want to use the 5k to prove to myself i can make a living doing this or prove i was wrong and have a good time and head back to school. My thinking is when i return from overseas in Jan to play cash games and small tournaments in the local area (TN/KY border where I will be for a short time) and try to add to the 5K And take the 5K or whatever the bankroll is after some cash play to the circuit events in tunica. I would play in 6 ring events and the nightly 120's and cash games in between but mostly would rely on a good score in one of the tournaments. I understand the variance in MTT's and all that but remeber its a one time shot not a grind......that is my thinking and if i make some $$$ try some more circuit events in hopes of building a roll for the WSOP in the summer........my thinking is to get more bang for my 5K playing the circuit if i jsut waited and went to wsop be bigger payday if i hit but could only play a few tournies. so i think the circuit is the best spot to go all in with my 5k roll and try to build it up over 5 or circuit locations until the WSOP 12 starts................ Well any advice on how to take a shot would be appreciated. Just FYI i had some success online +22k over the past 4 years online playing probaly 10 hours a week usually on sunday nothing special. i did play 1 WSOPC event 25 at tunica in februray before going overseas and we chopped 5 ways for 2,300. other than that just cash games and poekr clubs in the local area. i play NLH, PLO, PLO8 and Razz and HORSE.

I think it's great what youre trying and I wish you the best. I hope you get positive feedback from your posting. Im sure some will argue Band Roll Management and that you should grind instead of going for these Circuit tourneys. I say good for you. I wish I was a little younger without the responsibilties to try something very similar. Best of Luck to you and I hope we see you soon on TV. Keep us posted. And like the first poster... Thank you for your service to this country.

re: $5K BR ONE SHOT AT A POKER CAREER Good luck. A reasonably good player I know at our club put $6,000 into Poker Stars. In 2 weeks it was all gone. In my opinion he started to high and was cautious as he is when he plays live. Go careful dude, best wishes to you.

In my opinion you learn at a low level instead he started too high and as a consequence, his bankroll management was extremely questionable. |

Like to wish you good luck on your venture. Sounds like you got your head screwed on. I am no expert but i would of thought players on the circuit would be harder opponents to beat, as you sound a profitable player on line, i dont understand why you dont continue with what your doing.

Well with the black friday stuff that happened and not FT or PS online just doesnt seem safe anymore for US Players there are sites that still play but i dont feel comfortable having money on those sites at this time and the fields are not as good and small on the sites that offer american players. So im 100% done with online until the US gets there S*** together and passes a bill. Besides playing is more fun then my living room.......

Online poker is great and should be allowed just regulated......it would fit my lifestyle perfectly play mostly online and venture out during bigger live events.....maybe the new bill that was introduced gets some legs and gets to a vote this year. I think it will pass if it gets to the floor but getting out of those commitites is the problem with most bills........best case i think toward end of 2012 beg of 2013 even if its signed this year.........but better late than never........

Just really sucks that you put your life on the line to protect our freedoms and way of life, then come home to a government that restricts your freedom to spend the money you were paid in a way that you want. I do want to thank you for your service to our country (even though our current administration/governing bodies has no freakin clue what they are doing).
