I used to use it when deciding who to play HU. I'll take the people who've lost thousands (not as rare as you'd think) over the people with thousands of profit (this is extremely rare, but I ran into a few). I don't play HU too much anymore, and it's illegal on pokerstars now, although I have no idea how they're enforcing it.

I use sharkscope very frequently. I have bought month-long subscriptions multiple times (4-5 times), and I believe it helps me. Don't rely too much on it though, you can't tell how someone plays based on their stats. I heard pokerstars banned it but I don't see how they can enforce it and don't think they will be doing anything about it.

Do you think that a service similar to sharkscope which actually analyzed hand histories to try and show how someone plays would be valuable?

Aside from playing poker, my "real job" is web development. I've been playing around with the concept of building something like that...

I dont see how that would be possible.. Thats just too complicated to be said, there are so many variables so I don't think it would be accurate at all.

Well, I think it would be pretty easy to compute some basic analytics.

%raised preflop, %flops seen, %turns seen, % of played hands won, etc.

Plus, you'd actually be able to go and review entire games/sessions where someone you are researching played...

This would have to be a very very large sample size to be accurate though, and also it doesn't take into account whether they were dealer and stealing or under the gun with aces..

The sample size isn't a big deal.. it will come as people upload their histories - I figure give them some incentive for doing so.

As for usefulness... well, I guess I'll have to wait and see. I'm sure I'll post up here if/when I actually build something since I'll probably need some beta testers.

Yes, but it's a desktop product. What I want to build will be a web service. Which will obviously allow it to have a much larger data set (since it will be pooled data from all uploaders, and not just the owner of the product). So, to get info on someone's plays, you don't actually have to spend any table time with them.

I don't think anyone's made anything like that yet.

I think poker-edge is an attempt to be a web based pokertracker/database similar to what you suggest.
