chat banned on full tilt

Apparently I swore but I am pissed off because I spelled it correctly and it was bleeped out.

Seems like a really stupid rule to me that they have the censors but still will ban people's chat.

It may also be a good thing though had AK someone pushed all in behind me and I call their 8 3 suited in a 20 dollar sng. Of course, I lose.

I could not make a remark regarding their absolute stupidity...lol.

what can you do huh , maybe it's for the best , if you get used to cussing all the donks , you are not in control of your emotions and you're on tilt.

learn to let it go , make a note , and concentrate on the hands being played now. good luck .

Am I reading this correctly? You're mad because your curse word was bleeped out even though you spelled it right?
...Huh?

They have the censors and will ban chat because they want players to be able to have conversations at the table. Interact with each other, get to know the players. Not have other players curse at them, call them names, threaten them, etc.

It may also be a good thing though had AK someone pushed all in behind me and I call their 8 3 suited in a 20 dollar sng. Of course, I lose.

Why even make a remark? Why drop down to that level? Why not just take the loss, no matter how bad it is, keep you emotions in check and stay focused. You calling someone names, cursing at them, or commenting on their 'stupidity' isnt going to change how they play, but it'll change how you play if you get too emotional.
above.

I think he means how can he get banned for cussing when it was censored out and no one saw it. That is my question, too. How do you get chat-banned when all people see it "@#$%&"?? Reminds me of the guy who got banned because he typed in the chatbox that he was 4 years old. They go a bit overboard on the protection, I think.

I guess it would depend on what he said. Maybe he's been warned before about this type of chat and they dropped the hammer on him.

I agree. I don't think they have a right to chat ban you if the system automatically censors it and no one has any idea what it is. But, they apparently can and do what they want. Is there more to the story? Have you been warned before?

It reminds of the person who typed pokerstars (****) into the chat and he was banned for a couple days because they couldn't, and didn't care to differentiate between the fact that he didn't type any actual words in.

I know it's true for Stars, and probably most sites to warn people before they get their chat banned. I have a feeling he's not telling the whole story...

You're right Tammy - you definitely get a warning before they ban your chat.
It's one thing to yell curse words at a computer, but to have no self control and the fact that you are compelled to type your frustration into the chat box then you deserve to have your chat banned. :/

Here is the backstory in the email

Email:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Full Tilt Poker Support.

Mary, we apologize for the delay, however it has come to our attention
that you have been abusing your chat privileges at the tables. We value

all players and wish to cultivate an environment in which they can play

without being harassed or called names at the tables. A copy of the
offending chat is shown below:

27-Nov-2007 23:59:08 can you say pu#$%? (which it didn't bleep out)
28-Nov-2007 00:00:17 what about &*(#@ing mother @#$%ing !#%#head

We have revoked your chat privileges at this time for a period of one
month, after which time they may be reinstated upon your request. Any
attempt to circumvent this suspension may result in the permanent
closing of your account.

We thank you for your cooperation in this matter, and wish you best of
luck at the tables.

Regards,

Jed
Full Tilt Poker Support

Actually I was testing out the censors - not calling a donk a name or
anything like that. The entire table was having a good time saying bad
words to see if they would bleep them. Also, I had NOT been warned before.

The snide mark to a donkey wasn't going to involve a swear word, just a
"well played." Even then I should be in better control of my emotions,
but my point was that having my chat banned could be a good thing for my
game because I wasn't able to say anything to the villain, and I moved on
to the next hand.

oh I curse all the time on the pokerstars chat, knowing full well it'll be censored. But I NEVER direct curses AT anyone. A simple fu** or sh** when the A comes to bust me out. I've gotten past getting mad when people make bad plays, I've profited from too many of those bad plays for me to not want them to happen.

re: chat banned on full tilt poker

It may be a good thing you have it banned.Taking a beat is part of the game. You can now play without the distraction of typing in swear words when you get pissed.

Like was said above swear out loud to your computer, take notes, and move on knowing you have made the right decision.Don't start playing again right away until you gain control over yourself.

The worst thing you can do is let the others know you are angry. They may live to suckout and put people on tilt.Don't let them have the satisfaction.

Sorry I beg to differ here you must have been warned and banned before, I am speaking from experience. The first warning is just that a warning then you get a one week ban, then you get a one month ban. And as I said before you must have been warned and banned before.
Take it on the chin and wear it as a badge of honour....lol
You defended yourself, whatever don't let it distract you from your game.

Honestly though, I had not been warned before

The only thing I can think of is that last week I had a little second account on full tilt for the smaller stakes that they closed down... Whoops!

If it were a general strike system that that would make sense.

But if that is the penalty I will just have to cope with it for a month.

And maybe better learn to control my emotions...

I did send them one last email - my last stand - contending that since my words were not directed at an individual, and weren't even said in anger, that they should alleviate the ban, or at least reduce the sentence. It won't change anything though, obviously...

Since you were just 'testing' their censorship system, maybe they could send you a small check for doing contract security tech services for them.....

Maybe a small deposit to get your other small account going again.

Or maybe they are simply 'testing' their chat ban algorithm.

1. Your lucky they didnt close down both accounts and confiscate your cash.

2. Was it your emotions or were you testing the censor you cant have it both ways

This

Try reading their rules next time and you won't have any issues. Both swearing and dual accounts are against their code of conduct. Be thankful you can play, let alone only have a 1 month ban on your chat.

I turn all the chat, but the dealer chat, off at FT.

It's enough trying to work through a flawed random number generator, and a few hundred million donkeys.

Seriously, why do you continue to berate the donks? Just be glad they're are donks around. Yes, they'll suck you out occasionally, but they'll pay you off nine times out of ten when they call an all-in with 5,7 suited.

You know when you berate them, you may be giving them advice on how to improve their game. You really don't want to do that, do you?

Your first point is exactly correct I am very lucky that I didn't have my money confiscated. I didn't take the time to read the rules - I was under the impression that you could have multiple accounts if you used them seperately, and I believed you were allowed to swear if it was spelled correctly. Obviously, I was wrong on both counts.

In regards to your second question, I was actually testing the censors when I did swear - my point in controlling my emotions was that I can no longer make a snide remark to a donk (i.e. "well played" on a suckout, etc.) Since I can no longer talk, I cannot berate the donkeys, which now has had numerous benefits to my game including:

1. Donks will continue being donks

2. I don't get into a fruitless argument with a donk that makes me lose my temper, and go on tilt.

And as a side note, I had actually been warned before, but I did not see the email...

I think this chat-censorship is excessive.
  1. Players can block individual player's chat
  2. Players can block all chat
  3. The system censors words, even non-offensive words
Why is there need to on top of that ban player's chat? One could swear in public and no one can do anything about that. And people don't have the protections already in place online.

To on top of that confiscate funds is ridiculous. Poker rooms should be regulated like financial institutions. They should not have the right to confiscate funds except if fraud is proven in a court of law.

As for automatic censorship, I would do the following if I were designing a poker site: Let each player chose their own level of tolerance. Then, each player has a rating related to how many people have turned off his chat. The more, the higher the rating. So chat can be automatically blocked to the players with the corresponding tolerance level.
