I find that when I'm short stacked, the bigger stacks call with marginal hands because they can and they want to try to knock out another player. You have to be careful who you push all-in against. Mid-size stacks are best becuase they are the ones that have to be more careful with their chips. And if you raise against a short stack, be prepared that they may go all-in.
AA getting cracked happens all the time and you just have to remember that you got your chips in with the best hand. |

AA AK KK are good starting hands and you are probably in front preflop. AQ is the killer IMHO. If you short you need to push but as dufferdevon says be prepared to be called by a wider range of hands...they are looking to thin the field and are gambling that you have a mediocre hand or they suck out.
This happens all the time but if you feel you are being done in unfairly try recording your "good" hands ie when you win / loose with AK AA KK etc aswell as when you such out to the same hands. You may be surprised at the results.. I did this a while back (it was mentioned in a previous post) and was quite shocked to see how many time I actually sucked out to these types of hands. We all feel that at times poker is unfair and we can never win. NOT TRUE!!! Read more books, review your game again and again....plug those leaks (and check that they dont come back aswell).Post HH here ...these folks are real helpfull. As Cheetah says keep playing YOUR game! All the best on the felt RAT |

Can't imagine why you could feel embarrassed about getting your ACES cracked. KK is a hand that will require a very specific board to get away from. The obvious str8, or flush come to mind, along with any Ace. But even with an Ace showing, KK plays. This is when all your observations of the table, the action, the players, the general flow come into play.

Yeah, AA/KK is not guaranteed to win against anyone, and late in a tourney you'll get called more often with weaker hands because everyone is more desperate, and because they realize that everyone else is more desperate so they will put you on a wider range of hands and won't be quite as afraid of calling.

I don't like to call all-ins. If I am not totally desperate, I need AK or big pair(99+) to call. I usually fold AQ- and small pairs to avoid dominated situations.
You can of course open-push with more hands, but I don't like to do this from EP with small pairs and small Aces because too often you get called by a much better hand. |
