$50 deposit? Or should I go for the $1000?

OK, I've been playing at pokerstars for about a month now and have I been sucking at br management and playing period for that matter.. For the past month now Ive been making $50 dollar deposits here $100 deposits there, for a total of $925 dollars, and what do I have to show for? $0!! At the time I was thinking man, online poker is an easy way to make a (quick) buck, hince the name (quick) because I know now it's not quick at all.. Its a long and long process if you want to use bankroll management.. So I decided to not play real money poker for a good 3 months till about May to pick up my game, read a couple books, forums, etc... And when May hits around deposit $1,000 dollars and quit depositing and start withdrawing! Is this a good idea??? Or should I try a different route because I am stuck, and I am stuck hard.. Give me your take because at this point I am done talking about this sad story lol

This depends...Do you understand proper BR management? Do you have the controll to always follow the BR management? If you can answer yes to both of these questions, and you can afford to put $1000 online, go for it. But be careful, it sounds like you might be becoming addicted

It sounds like a good idea, but you should probably find the right limits, if you keep losing $50 / $100 deposits maybe go to a lower limit even though you can afford to play higher. (not sure if this helps at all, if not discard)

So you deposited a total of 1k and have nothing left? What are you playing? You need to change your stratagy. Find out what you are doing wrong !! 1k is alot to lose !!!. As far as deposit. I go for the bonus or rakeback option. Find a site that you dont have and go for the rakeback option if you play alot ring games. Here is a list cc offers. US Poker Sites - US Online Poker Sites Accepting US Players take advantage of them. GL

i def wouldnt deposit 1k if youre not used to playing under proper BR management guidelines. try like $250 and try to grind up from $10nl so you get a better idea of what kind of grind it actually is.

Until you can start winning at a $50 or $100 level, you shouldn't put in that much money.

Sounds like you'd probably be better off depositing a smaller amount, and playing smaller stakes.

You're right about poker not being the way to make a quick buck - but if you deposit a smaller amount ($50 can be more than enough) and play well with proper bankroll management, you can turn it into a much bigger amount over time.

Smaller amount, no question.

Your can barely/has barely improved through reading.

What would you need $1000 for if you are playing at low limits (which you should be, since you clearly can't play at higher ones) anyway?

If you're going to keep playing you need to find your strength game. Some people excel at cash games, others at multi-table tourneys, others at sit-n-go's or heads up.

It sounds like you need to play lower limits for a while & find your best game-type. Try not thinking in terms of money so much but in terms of being satisfied with the way you played your hands during the game.

Just trying to figure out your reasoning here... if you deposit in $50 and $100 indriments and keep losing then what good is depositing $1000 do? Withdraw deposited money just to see some checks coming in? You can deposit all you like... the amount of money in your account doesn't make the differance in overall wins or loses.

A few thoughts!

Most of the folks seem to say less money. I concur with the majority. But I'll give you a couple things I picked up on early on online versus my game. I've played ring game poker 30 years. Tight and a student of table image. Online low limit ring games table image means virtually nothing. As long as folks can reload the game is virtually gambling to the exclusion of skill at lower limits.
So I started playing MTT's and SnG. For me the SnG single table format was best. For you it might be big tournies, or single table. Perhaps ring game will suit your game. But try all 3. Stay micro. Perhaps expand to 25X the max buyin for ring games and no more than 1/50th buyin for a tourney. Through trial and error you'll start to see better results in one of the three areas. Plus if you have strengths outside of holdem I'd consider looking at those games. Always good fishing at small stakes tables/tournies.
Lastly remember there are alot of desent players even at the micro levels on stars. The "off" hours between 11pm EST and 7am EST tend to have more eratic play due to drinking, ect IMHO. I avoid playing then personally.

Deposit $500 but instead of moving up in limits, stay at like $.05/.10 and try to build bankroll from there. Ya with $500 it will seem like this is no money at all, but if you can start winning there, lets just say until you get to $550 or $600, then move to .10/.25 and start trying to win at those limits.
