180 players sit n gos

I've only been playing Poker online 4 months, and I've recently been playing on the Sit N Gos on Pokerstars that are $4.40 entry, with 180 players. I'm doing quite well on these and have decided to just play these tournaments for the moment, as they seem to suit me well, and I reckon it works best to focus on one tournament format.
When I've built up more of a bankroll I may switch to the $11 and $22 sit n gos which have the same format, just higher entry and prize money.
I was wondering if it gets much harder to win on these and if people play much differently.
Are there less donks on the higher sit n gos?
Do people play more conservatively or a bit better?

Still have the donks but definately less of them at the higher levels. I won a qualifier to the fulltilt 750,000 guarentee and really saw better play at this level. Continuation bets were often check-raised on me and found it hard to steal blinds as they were getting higher and my stack getting smaller.
Good luck to you.

The higher the less donks, I ussualy start conservative and as the blinds increase and your image gets better loosen up a little. If you usually multitable several of these big s&g's i reccomend starting with a little less when you make the jump from 4,4 to 11 so you can focus better. And when your better used to the level of play slowly increase the ammount of s&g's your playing.

How many tournaments have you played of these? I thought I was good at them too after I cashed my first two I played in a row. Just like anything else, it's hard to have success in these, but I think I'm getting there now. If you need any strategy pointers just let me know

Just remember to always have 20 times the buy in to whatever SNG you are going to play. Even if the game is harder for you to cash, you will not hurt your bankroll in the process, if you are good at the 180 player format you will be good at it no matter what the buy in

I've played about 150 of these so far.
I start off playing very conservatively then get more aggressive after the first hour or so, around when the antes kick in.

re: 180 players sit n gos

If you play proper bankroll management and if you play your 180 player strategy then you are gonna be fine

I've also done well in these, and final tabled the 11$ and 22$ one a couple times as well, actually I think I have a video in the vid section on here with me at the final table of a 22$ 180 man, and the play was pretty bad even at that limit. Just work you're way up, if you can be profitable at the 4.40s then I'm sure you'll do well..

Here is the really weird part about it.

The play will look about the same for the most part. The difference is that at higher levels you will have more successful players who have learned how to look like fishy donks while taking your stacks. It may only be 1 or 2 more players per table who can do this to you, but even 1 per table is enough to turn your good fortune bad.

If you believe you have found a profitable little niche, stick there and try doing several at the same time (multi-table), rather than thinking there is some more glamorous road to riches.

There ain't! The word grind is often used in poker, meaning there is no glamor. Any glamor would come after the fact, not unlike a weekend after a hard weeks work. It is work, pure and simple if you want to show anything approaching a consistent payoff. All work is boring, and good poker can get exceedingly boring making you feel like you would rather be working at manual labor which at least offers some physical exercise!

Then, on occasion, treat yourself to a higher buy-in tourney. Don't forget about satellites. They ofter an often cheap alternative to a pricey game.

The higher you climb the less donks you will find... but you must take into account that you may find more strategic players making decisions based on more than just their hole cards... a you climb more players are playing the player and not the cards they are dealt...

I think a better strategy is to play as follows according to your bankroll:

Ring Game: 20x Buy In
Sit and Go: 30x Buy In
Multi-Table Sit and Go: 40x Buy In
Multi Table Tournaments: 50x Buy In

Yea, the ROI for 4.40's is outstanding if you cash and play multiple tables. It may seem boring, but its really good experience and they are very profitable.

re: 180 players sit n gos

Congradulations with your play. I would comment to stay within your money management bankroll.. You know, higher games sound sexy and can lure all of us to them just to end up crushing that bankroll. Chris Furgerson has a great article on this subject on his web site through FTP. Check it out...and good luck on the felt.
