Despite issues in Asia, the World Poker Tour (WPT) bandwagon rolled into King’s Casino Rozvadov for its German main event.

In the wake of cancelling an event in Vietnam due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreaks, the WPT’s tournament team is doing its thing in the Czech Republic.

Kicking off today, the WPT Germany Main Event is being run in conjunction with Partypoker. Entry costs €3,300/$3,570, and organizers are guaranteeing a prize pool of at least €1.5 million/$1.6 million.

Czech Republic Perfect for WPT Germany

The festival started last week and represents the WPT’s second visit to King’s Casino in less than a year. In a first for its DeepStacks division, the WPT held an 11-day festival in Rozvadov in July 2019.

The decision to host events at King’s Casino is a two-part equation. Although poker is legal in parts of Germany, its network of live venues isn’t as extensive as one may expect. With some of the best poker players in the world hailing from Germany, the market for live games is lacking in parts of the country.

King’s Casino Rozvadov sits just a few miles from the Czech-German border, making it an ideal spot to host the WPT Germany Main Event. In addition to its history of hosting WSOP and Partypoker events, Leon Tsoukernik’s casino is also home to the largest poker room in Europe.

With all those factors in play, King’s will welcome the WPT’s finest for the $3,570 main event between Feb. 18 and 23.

Among the luminaries set to attend is Vince Van Patten. The WPT host is travelling to the Czech Republic for two reasons; he’s taking part in the tournament, and he’s making the trip in an effort to promote his recent film, “7 Days to Vegas.”

Van Patten is the writer, producer, and lead actor in the movie, loosely based on his life story. In the movie, washed-up actor turned poker player Duke Madson makes a prop bet involving a walk from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

Van Patten will attempt a similar feat by making his way from Germany to King’s Casino without any money.

“With the location of King’s Casino being accessible from so many places in Central Europe, I want to be dropped off and make my way there, and I am willing to bet on whether I make it carrying no money. Bring it on,” Van Patten told Partypoker.

So far, Van Patten hasn’t tweeted his location. However, with players filtering into King’s Casino for the main event, it’s likely he’ll be on his way in search of WPT success.
