Live poker returning to Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, the World Poker Tour partnering with Thailand, and another bad beat hit in Quebec are some short stacks CardsChat picked up in its latest orbit of poker news.

A bad-beat jackpot worth $2.5 million CAD was hit as the Casino du Lac-Leamy in Quebec last week. That giant pile of cash — $1.8 million USD — was split between the 46 players in the room. The bad beat happened during a $1/3 game where quad ten lost to a straight flush against a player holding Q9 of clubs.
The “losing” player won CAD $1,005,421 (USD $726,000), while the player with the straight flush got CAD $502,711 (USD $363,000). The players at the table all won CAD $84,000 (USD $60,000), and the other 38 players in the room took home CAD $13,000 (USD $9,400) a piece.
“The atmosphere in the Poker Room was electric with the hockey game playing on the screens,” a spokesperson for Loto-Québec told CTV, noting the Montreal Canadiens fans were not the only ones celebrating after the club clinched a playoff spot. “The players will remember this evening for a long time!”
Task force for WPT in Thailand
The World Poker Tour announced it will hold its first event in Bangkok, Thailand later this year — and the country welcomed them with open arms.
The announcement came in Thailand alongside several members of the government, including Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, and Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, Director of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
According to a press release by the Thai government, “a cross-agency joint task force will be established to provide comprehensive support and logistical facilitation for the event. The tournament, structured as a sports demonstration, will take place in Bangkok over 14 days. It is projected to attract over 10,000 visitors and will be broadcast globally via channels including ESPN, EURO Sports, and FOX, reaching audiences in more than 150 countries. The event is expected to generate significant revenue growth for Thailand’shospitality, F&B, retail, and entertainment sectors.”
The dates for the series have not been released. And now I have this song running through my head.
WSOP sats on Winamax
French online poker and gambling company Winamax is once again running satellites into World Series of Poker events. It’s the eleventh year in a row it will help send players to Las Vegas for the summer poker festival.
The site joins new WSOP owners GGPoker (which includes GGPoker Ontario, ClubGG, and Natural8) and WSOP Online in the United States as official online satellite providers of the WSOP.
Satellites are now taking place across all the platforms.
Planet Hollywood reopening poker room
Poker will return to Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas sometime in early May. The room was shuttered in July of 2021.
The new room will be located on the second floor of the casino located next to Paris on the Strip — the home of the WSOP. It will have 23 tables with 21 TVs in an area overlooking the casino’s “Pleasure Pit.”
