The newly established Senior Poker Tour (SPT) saw a very successful inaugural run at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica in January. The $550 No Limit Hold’em event was played by 61 players, creating a prize pool of $65,600. Glen Biddle of Centerville, Arkansas took down the event for a $16,432 payday, and a seat at the WSOPC at Harrah’s.
On the heels of a successful first run, the Senior Poker Tour announced upcoming tour dates and new partnerships with other poker tours as well.
Biddle Wins Inaugural Main Event
The Senior Poker tour was announced only a few short months ago and has received a good amount of interest from poker players around the world. Poker Hall of Famers such as Tom McEvoy and Linda Johnson have attached their names to the tour as official SPT Pros, along with notable players such as Marc Kroon, Jan Fischer, Susie Isaacs, and WSOP Main Event finalist Dennis Phillips.
The inaugural SPT Main Event concluded on January 14, 2014 at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, Mississippi with Glen Biddle of Arkansas winning the event. Biddle defeated Mike Buddy of Fort Louis, Kentucky for the title, as well as the $16,432 and WSOPC Main Event at Harrah’s entry.
Senior Poker Tour Heads to Las Vegas
Last week, the Senior Poker Tour announced that there is a new tour stop in the works. The SPT Vegas Spring Classic will take place from April 8-13, 2014 at the Stratosphere Casino in Las Vegas. The tour stop will be comprised of 12 events, all with reasonable buy-ins. The event will kick off with a $70 Survivor Mega Satellite to the SPT Championship, where the top 10 percent of entrants will get an entry to the $550 Championship event.
New Alliances Announced
Chief executive officer of the SPT Lupe Soto stated that the tour has forged an alliance with the PPC Poker Tour, and will have an event at the Tampa Bay Downs on March 11, with qualifiers winning a seat to the PPC Aruba Senior Event, which takes place in October. In addition to that alliance, the SPT has also secured a deal with the newly formed Pocket Fives Poker Tour, which will see a Senior’s Event take place at the Running Aces on April 6 in Minnesota.
The Senior Poker Tour’s vice president, Hal Coblentz, said that he feels the SPT fills a large gap in the poker industry, and that the tour is excited to be a trendsetter and leader for the concept of a senior tour. He feels that the response by the poker community at large, as well as players participating in the events, has been extremely positive.
Breakdown of the Las Vegas Tour Stop
For players looking to make the trip out to Sin City to participate in the upcoming SPT Vegas Spring Classic, a breakdown of all the events are below. Players that participate on Day 1A of the SPT Championship Main Event are allowed to re-enter on Day 1B if they bust out on Day 1A.
