The $3,500 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open is down from 843 players to 13, and high-roller superstar Sam Soverel is in that group. John Dollinger, however, holds the chip lead heading into Tuesday’s Day 4.
A pair of World Poker Tour legends — Anthony Zinno and Darren Elias — were unable to bag on Day 3.
Elias — who leads the WPT in cashes (39), final tables (12), and titles (4) — was eliminated in 32nd place. He took home $14,357. Zinno also ran deep, and added his 34th cash, busting in 38th place for $12,300.
Former world champion Joe McKeehen also busted on Day 3. The 2015 WSOP Main Event winner earned $9,374 for 50th place. He’s still in search of his first WPT title, although he’s made four final tables.
Soverel Biggest Name Remaining
Soverel has plenty of chips to make a run at his first WPT title with 13 players remaining at the Lucky Hearts Poker Open, but he’s trailing some talented poker pros, including one individual who has already won this event.
Brian Altman, second in chips (4,390,000), shipped this tournament at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida in 2015 for $723,008. In that year, 1,027 players entered, creating a larger prize pool than the current edition. This year’s winner will earn $482,636.
John Dollinger will enter Day 4 with the largest stack (4,900,000). Soverel is middle of the pack at 1,765,000. The blinds are currently at 25,000/50,000 with a 50,000 big blind ante.
Two other past WPT champions are also still in the mix. Chanracy Khun bagged 3,570,000 and James Calderaro ended Day 3 with 1,805,000.
They’ll play down to six players, creating the official final table, on Tuesday. The final table will take place on Wednesday, the same day a champion will be crowned.
Soon after the Lucky Hearts Poker Open concludes, the World Poker Tour will travel up north to Atlantic City for the $3,500 Borgata Winter Poker Open.
