In what’s becoming one of the online poker world’s most entertaining sagas, PokerStars has countered its competitor’s latest push for dominance with two added new offers.

Continuing the sit & go theme that started in February, the industry leader is now offering three-handed EPT qualifiers.

Spin & Go to Monte Carlo

Going live on March 17, the EPT Monte Carlo Spin & Go tournaments are a way for dot.com and dot.fr players to win an €8,000/$9,000 prize package. Costing €30/$34 to enter, the lottery-style games will offer a combination of cash prizes and tournament tickets.

Anyone who clinches a star prize will win entry to the $6,000 EPT Monte Carlo main event, a seven-night stay at Monte-Carlo Bay Casino and travel expenses. To sweeten the pot, qualifiers will also be invited to a VIP party on April 29.

Alongside the new selection of Spin & Go satellites, PokerStars has also launched Prizepool Madness. Described as a progressive freeroll, the tournament will take place on March 31 and feature a $10,000+ guarantee.

As per the March 18 press release, PokerStars will add money to the prizepool each time players complete tasks online. The more players that take part in the cross-platform challenges, the more money PokerStars will add to the prizepool.

What’s interesting about the recent innovations is their timing. With Partypoker launching its own sit & go promotion on March 18, there’s a clear pattern of one-upmanship going on between the two operators.

PokerStars/Partypoker Battle Adding Value

The upshot of these ongoing rivalry is more added value for players. However, what’s potentially more interesting is the battlefield in which the two poker companies have chosen to fight.

Throughout the latter half of 2018, Partypoker began angling its products towards seasoned players.

Through innovations such as enhanced loyalty rewards and a new advisory panel, the operator has sought to become more attractive to established grinders. In contrast, PokerStars has moved more towards the casual market.

The latest example of this came at the beginning of March when it banned seating scripts in an effort to protect novices.

Despite shifting towards different ends of the poker spectrum, both Partypoker and PokerStars are using lottery-style sit & go tournaments to establish dominance.

Traditionally seen as high variance games that pros would avoid, they’re now becoming hot commodities. Indeed, as the promo war continues and more money is added to the mix, these three-handed tournaments look set to become more attractive for players of all skill levels.
