PokerStars, the biggest poker room in the world, announced the start of their 100-event MicroMillions tournament series today. The series of low stakes poker tournaments will conclude on November 24, 2013 and feature 100 events all with prize pool guarantees of at least $5,000. The MicroMillions is one of the most popular online tournament series found in online poker and features buy-ins as low as just $0.11 with the Main Event sporting a shocking $1,000,000 prize pool.

What is the MicroMillions?

The MicroMillions is a low stakes tournament series at PokerStars. The buy-ins are aimed to be extremely small, typically within the $1-$5 range, but the prize pools are enormous. Millions of dollars in guaranteed prize pools are locked in during the series. This sixth incarnation of MicroMillions will run from November 14-24 and award at least $5,000,000 in guaranteed prizes.

Biggest Events

There are ten tournaments in the MicroMillions 6 series that will have prize pools in the six-figure range, highlighted by the Main Event, to take place on November 24 at 14:30 ET. The buy-in to the MicroMillions 6 Main Event will cost just $22 and will give at least $150,000 to first place. There are two tournaments that will offer $300,000 prize pools. The first will happen on November 17 at 13:30 ET in the 97th event, which is an $11 NL Hold’em tournament. The Second will happen on November 24 at the same time and be for the same $11 buy-in.

Three events sport a $150,000 prize pool guarantee during the series. The first will be the second event, played today on November 14 at 13:00 ET. This $1 tournament offers a NLHE re-buy event that is a “3x-Turbo” for fast and furious action. The second $150,000 guaranteed tournament will be on November 16 in the 20th event. This tournament will be a $2.22 re-buy NLHE 3x-Turbo event. Finally, on November 23, the 85th event will be another $2.22+R NLHE 3x-Turbo tournament.

The 23rd event will be a $1 re-buy NLHE 3x-Turbo tournament and have a $125,000 prize pool. That trumps three other $100,000 events in the series, starting with the $11 NL Hold’em SuperKnockout event on November 16. On November 18, Event 41 will feature the same $100,000 guarantee, and event 50 will do the same on November 18.

Smallest Buy-ins

There is one event (played today) that had only an $0.11 buy-in and there are eleven more events which will cost players just $1 to enter, although they are all re-buys. There are sixteen additional tournaments that cost between $2 and $2.22 to enter, mixed between re-buys and standard NLHE tournaments. Between all of these tournaments, buy-ins ranging from $0.11 to $2.22 makes up 28% of the events in the MicroMillions 6 series.

Other Games

Not all tournaments are played as NLHEs or turbos. There are quite a few Pot Limit Omaha events, as well as NL Draw, HORSE, PL 5-Card Omaha, NL Single Draw 2-7, and NL Omaha (re-buy) events in the series. There are also Razz and Pot Limit Courcheval games planned as well.

Little Risk, Big Reward

Even small and medium cash game players that normally give the finger to micro-stakes tournaments might want to take a look at this series. If anything, they provide a bit of comedy and fun, and a group of friends can enjoy a “last longer” bet to make things even more interesting. Nevertheless, most micro and small stakes tournament players have to be feeling some serious love from PokerStars as this tournament series ranks as one of the best ever for micro and small stakes players.
