Online poker players in Pennsylvania will soon have a brand new, fully regulated tournament series to enjoy thanks to Partypoker. Starting Sunday, June 20, the eight-day, 10-event series will be available through either of the network’s two state-regulated online sites, BetMGM Poker or Borgata Poker. Both sites use the PartyPoker US software platform, and players from both sites are pooled for tourney play, including in this upcoming series.
The series replaces an earlier one that was tentatively set for late May, but that had been pulled back shortly after being announced. That earlier series was also slated to be an eight-day, 10-event affair, and the upcoming June series offers a highly similar mix of events.
Nine of the 10 events in the upcoming Pennsylvania series offer some variant of N0-Limit Hold’em, while the 10th is a six-max PLO tourney. All told, the series will offer $270,000 in guaranteed money, and buy-ins will range from $20 all the way up to $1,060 for the final day’s main event.
Series collides with PokerStars’ PA series
Partypoker’s first effort in Pennsylvania — BetMGM and Borgata Poker only launched in April in the state — will go heads up against serious competition for tourney players’ dollars. The series overlaps with one from its sole competitor in the state, PokerStars, whose Summer Stacks Series runs from June 12-28.
As PlayPennsylvania’s Martin Harris noted, there are some significant differences between the two series, with the PartyPoker events typically carrying much higher price points than the PokerStars series, where almost everything is $109 or less to enter. PartyPoker’s offerings, with the exception of two $109 events and a $20 final-day special, all carry a buy-in of at least $215. The series’ Sunday, June 27 main event, an eight-max, No-Limit Hold’em event with a $75,000 guarantee, has also had its buy-in nearly doubled (to $1,060) from the original version of the series that was announced in May.
