Park MGM (formerly the Monte Carlo) in Las Vegas will reopen on Sept. 30. The mega-resort will become the first non-smoking casino on the Strip, but the facility won’t have a poker room available.

The poker room at Monte Carlo, an MGM Resorts property, closed a few years back, just before the casino was renovated and then re-branded. Monte Carlo only had a small card room with just a few tables, but was a popular place among low-stakes grinders.

When the casino’s name went through a change in 2018, MGM decided to exclude poker. Upon reopening later this mont — for the first time since mid-March — poker will remain non-existent, but there are numerous card rooms within walking distance of Park MGM (Aria, Bellagio, MGM Grand, just to name a few).

Park MGM the Place for Smoke-Free Gambling

There’s no secret that many gamblers like to smoke while playing their favorite slot machines and table games. Smoking has long been banned in all Las Vegas poker rooms. But you can smoke just about anywhere else in the casinos, except for the Park MGM once it reopens on Sept. 30.

Never before has a casino on the Strip been fully smoke-free. Once the property returns to action later this month, that will change. Customers won’t be permitted to smoke anywhere inside the facility. That includes table games, slot machines, restaurants, bars, or while you’re just aimlessly walking around.

Park MGM and its sister hotel, NoMad, are the last MGM Resorts properties in Las Vegas to reopen. Mirage reopened for business recently, leaving only the casino formerly known as Monte Carlo to return.

“As we looked toward our reopening, we identified an opportunity to be responsive to recurring guest demand for a fully non-smoking casino resort on The Strip,” Anton Nikodemus, President of MGM Resorts’ Las Vegas Portfolio told the local Fox 5 affiliate. “With an expansive Las Vegas portfolio, MGM Resorts is able to offer an array of options for visitors, all within the MGM Resorts family.”

You won’t be allowed to play poker at Park MGM, but there will be table games, slot machines, and a sportsbook available. If you get hungry while on property, the casino will have a few of its restaurants open for business, including the upscale Eataly Italian market and Crack Shack.
