Ole Schemion Wins 2013 European Poker Player of the Year
German Ole Schemion has had an impressive 2013, he now adds the European Poker Player of the year award to his recent GPI World Player of the Year win.

It’s been a very impressive and accomplished year for German professional poker player Ole Schemion.

After success at previous tournaments and his recent 2013 GPI Player of the Year award, what could possibly be a better way to cap it all off? How about another Player of the Year award for good measure?

Taking Europe by Storm

Ole Schemion can add European Player of the Year to his list of accomplishments, winning the award at the GPI European Poker Awards 13th Edition. The awards were sponsored by PokerStars and held in conjunction with Casino Lucien Barriere and the PokerStars European Poker Tour Deauville.

Along with his two Player of the Year awards, Schemion has won over $1.6 million in live tournaments, including 6-figure score cashes at the 2013 PCA, EPT Grand Final, EPT Barcelona and EPT Prague. Addressing his standout 2013 Ole said, “I had a really great 2013 with so many deep runs and success. It makes me feel honoured to win GPI World and German Player of the Year.”

“Congratulations to Ole Schemion. This award from the European Poker Awards recognizes his effort and sustained success in poker tournaments throughout 2013. He can be very proud of his achievement,” said Edgar Stuchly, President of the European Poker Tour.

Rise to the Top

Schemion’s win of the 2013 Player of the Year title could also be considered an enormous success. The German player managed to beat Daniel Negreanu for the award. For reference, Negreanu has GPI’s Player of the Decade as just one of his many claims to fame.

2013 began with Schemion placing fourth in the $25,000 High Roller Event at the European Poker Tour PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and then grabbing the fifth spot at the $10,000 Six-Max Event. April saw him win the Championship Event of the Lebanese Poker Tour Kyrenia stop, pocketing over $200,000. Wins at the EPT Grand Final and a sixth place finish in August during the EPT Barcelona including a €50,000 Super High Roller event, kept Schemion’s momentum throughout the year.

December’s EPT Prague Main Event ensured Schemion would take the GPI Player of the Year award. There he came in fifth place with around $300,000. Though Daniel Negreanu had been leading the Player of the Year standings for a good part of 2013, he never cashed after a High Roller win at the World Series of Poker Europe. Because of that, Schemion took the lead and the honor.

Other Awards at GPI EPA

Schemion’s European Player of the Year award was one of many given out to players. Many Player of the Year awards were also handed out for various countries, including a few specialty ones. “The GPI European Poker Awards are a key event on the global poker calendar, and showcase the leading stars of the European poker world,” said Alexandre Dreyfus, President of the Global Poker Index.
