Poker superstar Jennifer Harman has always been a champion for animals, and now, for the 11th time, she will once more raise money for the Nevada SPCA, Las Vegas’ primary No Kill animal shelter.
If you like being surrounded by TV, movie, and poker A-listers, you’ll want to note that her Jennifer Harman Celebrity Poker Tournament is less than a week away now, on Friday, November 10 at Planet Hollywood.
The action kicks off at 6:30 with a $200 buy-in tournament with endless rebuys for the first few levels. Entries are payable on site at Planet Hollywood on the mezzanine level, where the tourney takes place. But you’ll probably want to arrive early so you can watch the Red Carpet excitement from 5 pm on, while eating, drinking, and rubbing elbows with the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Mike Matusow, Karina and Chip Jett, and of course, Jennifer Harman herself.
There will also be lavish silent auction items to bid on, which last year included a private jet to take you anywhere in California.
Free Entry into WSOP Main Event 2018 at Stake
What everyone will be gunning for will be that $10,000 entry into next summer’s World Series of Poker Main Event, which goes to the first-place finisher. Second place takes home $3,000 and third, $2000. All remaining final tablers will get swag to take home.
Last year’s first-place finisher Cathy “Frenchie” Guibal only had $1,486 to her live tournament credit when she took down the event last year. Her Hendon Mob now shows a considerable bump to $9,041, mostly at tournaments at Planet Hollywood where the Nevada SPCA charity event is also held. Her best finish to date, other than last year’s win at the Jennifer Harman tourney (which doesn’t get added to Hendon Mob) was taking the 38th spot for $3,933 in the $520 NL Goliath Phamous series at PH.
CardsChat is Media Sponsor for Fourth Year Running
Once again, CardsChat will be an event sponsor, offering cool logo’d card protectors and player hats for all 10 final table finishers, along with a generous donation to Nevada SPCA. CardsChat Forum and Social Admin Debi O’Neill will also be in attendance, as will yours truly and fellow news editor Dan Michalski.
“We couldn’t be prouder to be coming back once again to support this fantastic cause,” O’Neill said. “Coming to Las Vegas to play poker with the best of the best while helping the animals of Nevada SPCA is a just a huge win for us, before the cards are even in the air.”
Last year’s event saw 224 players (many of whom Master of Ceremonies Daniel Negreanu “encouraged” to rebuy multiple times, as he ran from table to table, rebuy-shaming those who didn’t comply), along with celebrities including Kathy Liebert, 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event winner Qui Nguyen, and the original Nguyen, Scotty.
Other notables spotted in 2016 included long-time ESPN World Series of Poker commentator Norman Chad, Eli Elezra, and Todd Brunson. Chumlee of the popular History Channel show “Pawn Stars” also played, as did the Las Vegas Tenors’ Bobby Black, and longtime Nevada SPCA supporter, magician Lance Burton.
Kathy Jung, Nevada SPCA president and acting director, pinpointed why this annual event is such a major fundraiser for the Las Vegas No Kill shelter:
“To date, with Jennifer Harman hosting these tournaments, we’ve been able to raise over a million dollars. This money goes towards our mission of rescuing the homeless and neglected animals in Nevada and the tri-state area [California and Arizona].
“It is largely thanks to Jennifer’s kindness and generosity that we are in the process of building a new Nevada SPCA campus, currently in Phase One. We couldn’t be where we are today without her help, and that of other notable poker stars like Daniel Negreanu.”
