GGPoker is tapping into the zeitgeist once again, this time by hosting and streaming a high-stakes match between Fedor Holz and Wiktor Malinowski.

With heads-up duels the talk of Twitter and beyond right now, GGPoker has seized another opportunity to steal the limelight.

The rapidly rising site confirmed yesterday that it will support Holz vs. Malinowski, and that the match will be the first in a new series dubbed the GG Face-Off Challenge.

GGPoker is trending … and trendy

Phil Galfond helped revive interest in online heads-up battles last year. Taking inspiration from the old Durrrr Challenge, he offered to play anyone at any stakes in Hold’em or Omaha.

Doug Polk and Daniel Negreanu jumped on the bandwagon in the latter part of 2020 and, more recently, Phil Hellmuth’s name has been thrown into the mix.

With demand for online heads-up matches at an all-time high, Malinowski, aka Limitless, recently locked horns with Stefan Sontheimer. Even before that battle was finished, he’d turned his attention to another German pro, Fedor Holz.

The two went back-and-forth on social media last week and now, thanks to Holz’s sponsor, GGPoker, they have a place to play.

The No-Limit Hold’em match will get underway on March 5 at 17:45 UTC. The blinds will be set at $100/$200, and both players will be 100 big blinds deep. From there, the two will play three more sessions on March 8, 10, and 12.

GGPoker is more than the host site. It’s using the match as the first in a new series of heads-up challenges between poker’s finest.

As such, Holz vs. Malinowski will be shown exclusively on the GGPoker TV YouTube channel. The streams will feature expert commentary, prize giveaways, and interviews. Fans will also be able to bet on the action via GGPoker’s onsite betting system.

More entertainment for fans, more exposure for GGPoker

For all intents and purposes, the match should be an all-around entertainment spectacle. Moreover, it marks the start of another innovation from GGPoker.

“This one has been a while in the making, but we think that now is the perfect time for these two titans of the game to clash and there’s no better place for all the action to unfold than on GGPoker’s award-winning software,” said John Scanlon, Director of Live Events & Sponsorships at GGPoker.

We don’t yet know who else will take part in the GG Face-Off Challenge. However, the idea does tap into poker’s latest craze.

Few operators have had their finger on the pulse like GGPoker in the last 12 months. When COVID-19 put the world on lockdown, it made a mark by hosting the WSOP’s international online events.

Partypoker did the same with the WPT, marking the two companies as 2020’s standout performers. Given that GGPoker is a relatively new name on the scene, its efforts in recent months have been impressive.

Stepping up to host and stream Holz vs. Malinowski shows its executives are willing to seize opportunities. Moreover, it’s something else GGPoker can use to bolster its bid to become the industry’s top operator.
