Sami Kelopuro, aka LarsLuzak, has been on fire over the past two weeks, notching up four wins and more than $547,000 in prize money.
The Finnish pro has been a perennial fixture on the high-stakes scene for the best part of a decade. Although his infamous screen name may not be as prominent as it once was, he’s still regarded as one of poker’s elite.
Anyone who doubts this fact only has to look at Kelopuro’s recent run on GGPoker. After taking down three tournaments last week, he capped off his run with a victory in the Super Millions$ on Tuesday.
Kelopuro is Flying High
The Finn’s winning streak began on Feb. 7 in the $1,650 High Rollers Blade Bounty King PLO event. He parlayed that $16,864 payday into another victory a day later in the $5,250 High Rollers Sunday Blade Closer.
That win was worth $54,866, taking his running total to $71,730. Kelopuro’s third score, $57,374, came on Feb. 14. This time it was in the $5,250 High Rollers Sunday Blade Opener.
On that same day, he final-tabled the $2,625 version of the event for $9,786. With $138,000+ in MTT winnings over the course of a week, Kelopuro was certainly on form heading in the latest Super Million$.
The $10,000 MTT is quickly becoming a weekly highlight on GGPoker. With the likes of Benjamin Rolle and Justin Bonomo winning in recent weeks, it’s the online tournament to capture right now.
Kelopuro started the final table seventh out of nine players. However, poor starts from Guillaume Nolet, Aleksei Barkov, and former Super Million$ champion Bert Stevens meant Kelopuro laddered up quickly.
Then, as Adrian Mateos and Darren Elias lost their footing, the Finn got stronger. His rise from seventh to first place was complete when he beat WSOP Main Event champion Damian Salas heads-up.
Final Flourish Gets LarsLuzak Fourth GGPoker Title
Salas broke through in January when he won the Main Event 2.0. Regardless of whether or not he’s considered the true world champion, his latest performance shows he’s far from a flash in the pan.
Unfortunately, he ran into a player that’s in red hot form right now. Kelopuro cut his teeth as a heads-up player and his class showed in the final stages of the match.
In the end, both players hit a pair of kings, but Kelopuro also paired his jack kicker. With Salas holding K-8, the hand was over by the turn, leaving Kelopuro to scoop the final pot on the river.
