Doug Polk is getting in on the cryptocurrency game. Earlier this week, he announced the launch of Coin Central, his new cryptocurrency news website. The project will keep the already busy media-savvy poker pro even busier.

Polk, the 2017 WSOP One Drop High Roller $3.6 million champion, has become more than just a high-stakes poker player. He’s also a YouTube personality, a webmaster, and a businessman.

“As of today I am excited to announce my next project. Today is the official launch of my CryptoCurrency news site CoinCentral.com,” he posted on Twitter.

Polk has been a big believer in virtual currencies for a while. He took a gamble on Bitcoin in TK when it was 1 BTC cost $100. Today’s value exceeds $5,600.

Polk is convinced “cryptocurrency is the future,” and doesn’t fear the price of Bitcoin or other forms of cryptocurrency will collapse.

New Challenges

Polk still plays poker but not as frequently as in the past. He appeared on Poker Night in America this past week and will be competing on the popular PokerGO show against next week in a $500/$1k no-limit hold’em cash game.

Off the felt, he’s a businessman and poker commentator. He owns Upswing Poker, an online poker training site, and has a popular YouTube poker channel with over 147,000 subscribers. And now he is looking to expand his reach beyond poker to connect with people interested in news about the world of digital coin technology.

“I look forward to this new challenge, and will do my best to ensure anyone looking for accurate information will find it,” Polk posted on Twitter.

Coin Central is promising to offer reviews of websites offering Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies, investment advice, an introduction to Bitcoin, and, Polk says, eventually a news section.

“At @realcoincentral, our goal is to help anyone interested in the world of Crypto to get trustworthy and reliable information to make decisions,” he tweeted.

Poker Players Love Crypto

Polk isn’t the only poker pro involved with cryptocurrency. Brian Rast and Dan Colman were hired as advisors and ambassadors for Virtue Poker, a start-up Ethereum-based online poker site that is expected to launch next summer.

Virtue Poker would become the first poker site that uses cryptocurrency as the only accepted method for withdrawals and deposits. The site has been developed over the past two years and the creators hope to launch by mid-2018 but no hard date has been set.

Americas Cardroom, a US-facing online poker site, will soon be adding 60-plus cryptocurrencies to its accepted deposit and withdrawal methods.

Poker-pro-turned-politician Tony G is serving as a key advisor to Bankera, an operation trying to connect the world of cryptocurrency and digital finance to traditional banking and financial services.

Cryptocurrency has exploded in recent years, and Polk wants to be the go-to source for news about it. But will the growing interest last? Like other poker pros before him, Polk is betting on it.
