Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Justin Bonomo Headline First 34 Super High Roller Bowl V Entries Announced

Poker legends Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth are, unsurprisingly, among the first 34 players signed up for the upcoming $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl in Las Vegas, according to tournament host Poker Central.

A total of 49 entries make up the high-roller event, which takes place at the PokerGo Studio, creating a $14.4 million prize pool. The winner will receive $5 million.

Justin Bonomo, wrapping up arguably the finest year in poker history, will chase another high-stakes title and could make it a clean sweep of SHRB trophies in 2018.

Bonomo won the first SHRB Vegas in May for $5 million and also scooped the SHRB China in March for $4.8 million. As insane as this may seem, those weren’t even close to his biggest win of the year. That came in the $1 million buy-in WSOP Big One for One Drop where he took home an absurd $10 million prize.

In total, Bonomo has $25 million in cashes this year. As a result, with $43.4 million, he surpassed Negreanu as the all-time winningest tournament player. And, barring a Full Tilt Poker-like scandal, he’s almost assured a spot in the Poker Hall of Fame once he’s eligible in eight years.

Winning SHRB V, which runs from December 17-19, would be icing on the cake.

Negreanu Seeks Revenge

Negreanu lost a heads-up match against Bonomo for the SHRB IV title. He’d like nothing more than to get a rematch and prove he can still compete against arguably the best no-limit hold’em player in the world.

DNegs is one of a handful of players who has participated in all five SHRB’s since it first launched in 2015. But he only has one cash which is for $3 million.

Bonomo, along with Erik Seidel and Christoph Vogelsang, is one of three players to cash twice in the Super High Roller Bowl. “ZeeJustin” also finished seventh in 2017 ($600,000).

Vogelsang has also been on a heater in this prestigious high-roller event. The German sensation shipped it in 2017 for $6 million and then cashed in 2018 (fifth for $1.2 million).

Big Name Longshots?

The SHRB has room for 49 players and Poker Central has already announced the first 34 confirmed entries. Names we haven’t discussed include Phil Hellmuth, Dan “Jungleman” Cates, and current GPI Player of the Year leader Alex Foxen.

All four past winners — Bonomo (2018), Vogelsang (2017), Rainer Kempe (2016), Brian Rast (2015) — are confirmed participants.

Hellmuth seeks to avenge his epic flameout in last year’s SHRB. After showing up for this $300,000 buy-in tournament fashionably late, he made some questionable plays and was quickly eliminated. Poker Twitter was critical of his decision to arrive late and also questioned his ability to compete with the best in the world anymore.

The Poker Brat briefly silenced the haters a couple months later by winning his record-setting 15th WSOP bracelet. But a title in a high-roller event such as the SHRB might shut them up for good.

Other notable entries: Fedor Holz, Isaac Haxton, Dan Smith, Cary Katz, and one of poker’s brightest young stars Nikita Badziakouski.

While these are all talented players, given how this year has gone, they’re all likely playing for second to Bonomo.
