CardsChat Poker Podcast: Why Did Daniel Negreanu Leave PokerStars?

2 min read

Daniel Negreanu shocked the poker world this week by leaving PokerStars, the online poker site he’s been the face of for 12 years. In this edition of the CardsChat Poker Podcast, I discuss why he may have left and also get a few things off my chest. Namely, casinos taking advantage of poor people and the disgraceful Texas poker laws.

In a way, Negreanu leaving the world’s largest poker site was a complete shock. After all, his name is synonymous with PokerStars. It’s hard to even imagine one without the other. The two parties go together like chicken and Frank’s Red Hot sauce. But given how many players have ditched the poker site in the past year, perhaps it shouldn’t have been too surprising.

Daniel hasn’t announced his specific reason for resigning. But I think I have a pretty good idea of why he may have left. Or, for you GTO pros, I’ve narrowed it down to a range of potential reasons. My guess is we’re all going to find out what happened within the next couple of weeks, if not earlier. Negreanu is too outspoken to keep it hush forever.

The May 25 edition of the CardsChat Poker Podcast is just over 15 minutes in length. In this episode, I share the possible reasons why Negreanu left PokerStars. I also address what I feel is a disgusting display by a local Las Vegas casino in what appears to be taking advantage of poor people. And I briefly hit on Kid Poker’s constantly showing MasterClass ad on YouTube along with the Texas poker room controversy that may never end.
