CardsChat Presents: Big Winners of the Week (April 25 – May 1)

5 min read

When we first started this Big Winners feature, part of the purpose was to connect every poker player in the world by showing how events relate to each other, even across different stakes. The idea was to show the climb poker players were making. And that’s why we’re thrilled to see one of our own show her face in these hallowed virtual halls. Read more below about her victory and others that caught the attention of CardsChat News for the week ending Saturday, May 1, 2021:

Seth Davies

GGPoker Spring Festival
Sunday 5 Million

$956,440

He might be quiet in demeanor at the poker table, but Seth Davies does plenty of talking with his chips. The Oregon native with over $8.9 million in live tournament cashes, added another $956,440 to his poker resume on Monday via the special $10,300 buy-in Sunday tourney on GGPoker. Davies beat out 172 players in one of the final events in GG’s $190 million Spring Festival. His payday fell just short of $1 million, making this rising poker star, now a regular on the high roller scene (online and live), 8th among the highest paid winners of this series.

SCOOP Main Event (Medium)
PokerStars

$838,908

Mosböck topped a field of 4,107 entries on Wednesday night thanks to a gritty final table comeback. The Austrian hotshot pro ended Day 2 of the $1,050 main event as chip leader. He lost his position on Day 3 but made it to Day 4’s final table with a playable stack. It was there from whence he mounted his comeback. From a 3:1 deficit heads-up, the Pokercode coach (and founder of a discount luxe international travel agency) ground down his opponent over the course of two hours. Mosböck’s reward was a maiden SCOOP title and a top prize worth only $40,000 less than the winner of the $10,300 “Large” main event.

Chad Eveslage

Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown High Roller
Hollywood, Florida

$767,576

The Indiana native who quietly had amassed nearly $1.7 million in live tournament winnings before Tuesday, outlasted a 145-entrant field in a $25,000 buy-in that put Eveslage up against Byron Kaverman, Darren Elias, Ali Imsirovic, and numerous other high-profile players in South Florida. The event was the largest high roller in the history of the Seminole Hard Rock, which boasts one of the top poker rooms in the Eastern time zone. Eveslage cut a deal three-handed with Kaverman ($670,285) and Sean Perry ($596,418), but took home the largest chunk of the pot because he had the biggest stack when the players agreed to a chop.

Joao Vieira

Joao Vieira

Powerfest Super High Roller
Partypoker

$249,791

Team Winamax pro Vieira crossed the divide and came back a champion on Monday night. The Portuguese pro was grinding the two-day $10,300 MTT from the Netherlands, so he was out of his comfort zone in two respects. Despite being away from home and playing on a site that’s not his sponsor’s, Vieira blasted through the final 16 players on Day 2. With top names like Nick Petrangelo and Rob Yong laying in his wake, he had 4X as many chips as Francois Billard heads-up. That was enough of a cushion to get the man known online as Naza114  across the line and add to his $23 million in MTT earnings.

Diego Cuellar

Partypoker Powerfest
Main Event

$173,866

The record books will show that Cuellar is a Powerfest main event champion, regardless of how he won on Tuesday night. The Peruvian grinder had to overcome 1,700 players to build the biggest stack in Partypoker’s $1,050 MTT. However, the showpiece event actually attracted 1,703 players. Unfortunately, we never got to see a showdown. When fellow Peruvian and Caribbean Poker Party winner Diego Ventura hit the rail, the final four swapped chips for ten minutes before cutting a deal. Cuellar had the biggest stack at the time and, with no money set aside for the champ, he won the title by default.

Fernando Cisneros

Venetian DeepStack Extravaganza
No Limit Hold’em UltimateStack
Las Vegas

$58,685

Cisneros made the drive from his home in Los Angeles to Las Vegas to compete in what would turn out to be the largest event of the Venetian’s 2021 DSE series. It was the largest cash of his career. Cisneros claimed the title in $600-buy-in Ultimate Stack, a four-day event that ended on Sunday. The event drew 788 entries and with a $397,940 prize pool, nearly doubled its official guarantee. The field was down to four survivors when they decided to chop the remaining prize money, and Cisneros narrowly outchipped eventual runner-up Zack Fuentes ($56,574) to claim his first recorded live title.

Venetian OneDay NLH
Las Vegas

$969

Make no mistake, Debi O’Neill IS CardsChat, and she’s testament to how our community can make you a better poker player. As lead community administrator, she runs the CardsChat forum, and around CC’s virtual headquarters, she’s the go-to for questions about poker. This Georgian was enjoying her off days in Las Vegas — playing in 7 live tournaments, cashing in three, bubbling one and winning the Wednesday’s $150 daily No Limit Hold’em (with $4k guaranteed) at the Venetian. As night fell on this full day of poker, Debi was the chip leader at the final table with six remaining. Ever the savvy negotiator, she agreed to a six-way chop, in which she got the most cash, a champion’s coin, and this picture for Big Winners of the Week, in which she proudly displayed an homage to the community that she says made her a better player.
