The Golden Nugget’s annual Grand Poker Series will take place May 26-July 6 downtown and feature 105 total events, kicking off simultaneously with the World Series of Poker.
The schedule, released by the casino via Twitter on Wednesday, will feature mostly $120 to $200 buy-in events, including a (nearly) nightly $120 No-Limit Hold’em tournament that has become a standard feature of this Fremont Street festival.
Series Includes Big Buy-ins for Mixed Game Players
The entire series, located in the casino’s The Grand ballroom, features more than $3 million in guarantees, although the guarantees for most individual events are small. The biggest exceptions are $200 NLHE tournaments taking place May 28-31, June 4-7, June 11-14 and July 2-5 with as many as nine starting flights and each with a $250,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Other highlights of the Grand Poker Series schedule include:
- $1,100 Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Championship on June 15-16
- $1,100 Seniors High Roller NLHE June 20-21
- $1,100 HORSE Championship on June 22-23
- $600 NLHE Championship on June 25-28 with a $500,000 guarantee
- $1,100 Big O Championship on June 30-July 1
The Seniors High Roller will take place during what Golden Nugget dubs its “seniors week,” which features five seniors events over the seven-day span, including a $570 Super Seniors (for ages 60 and up) with a $100,000 guarantee on June 24.
An Alternative to the WSOP
All but 10 of the festival’s events are one-day affairs, making them convenient for players looking to slot quick tournaments into their schedules between World Series of Poker events.
The 2019 series attracted 1,313 entries to its $600 NLHE championship tournament, creating a prize pool of $677,508 and awarding $90,630 to winner Michael Policastro.
Grand Poker Series players can get a discounted room rate of $29 on weekdays and $59 on weekends with the promo code POKER20. The catch is those rates don’t include those pesky resort fees of $36 per night, which more than double the cost of the weekday rooms.
Binion’s, the only other casino with a poker room on Fremont Street and the birthplace of the WSOP, is expected to host its annual summer festival but hasn’t released a schedule yet.
