The 2017 World Championship of Online Poker, better known as WCOOP, kicked off on Sunday and is slated to offer $60 million in guaranteed prize pools through Sept. 26. The first four events (out of 81 total) finished on Monday, with three winners booking six-figure scores.
KumariOy Wins WCOOP Sunday Million
The biggest tournament over the weekend was WCOOP-03-H ($1,050 NLHE Sunday Million SE), which drew 2,074 players for a $2,074,000 prize pool, well above the guaranteed $1.5 million.
Notables claiming a portion of it included Sam “SamSquid” Grafton (31st for $7,334.28), Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody (99th for $4,603.45), and Mustapha “lasagnaaammm” Kanit (111th for $3,646.92).
By the time the final table rolled around, all eyes were on chip leader Bryn “BrynKenney” Kenney, who has been killing it in the live circuit in 2017 with $6,240,894 in winnings. Unfortunately in this online matchup, Kenney came up short, going out in 4th place for about $110,000.
In what would be his final hand, blinds were 300k/600k/75k when action folded to “a Bull 67,” who raised to 1.2 million from the small blind. Kenney, who had nearly 10.2 million in chips, called from the big to see a flop of 8♦9♣6♠.
“A Bull 67” led out for 1.35 million, and then called after Kenney moved all-in for nearly 8.9 million. “A Bull 67” tabled Q♣Q♠, which was well ahead of Kenney’s J♣9♦. The 6♣ turn and J♠ river gave Kenney jacks and nines, but it was no good as “a Bull 67” ended up making a bigger two pair.
In the end, “KumariOy” from Russia bested “a Bull 67” heads-up to win the title and a $310,289.83 first-place prize. Back in 2013, “KumariOy” became a SCOOP champion after he won Event #7-H ($700 NL Heads-Up) for $80,354.20. He also finished third in the 2015 SCOOP Main Event for over $700K.

Seize the Day, Cross $3M Bar in Online Winnings
In WCOOP-01-H ($215 Sunday Kickoff), 4,034 players took to the virtual felt and more than doubled the guarantee by creating an $806,800 prize pool. The UK’s carpediem200, who had $2.9 million in online earnings heading into the tournament, came out on top to win $115,278.
The tournament ended with the blinds at 700k/1.4M/175k when “BBlackkk,” who had nearly 22 million in his stack, limped on the button with 10♣9♦ and “carpediem200,” with nearly 180 million in chips, just called from the big blind with A♦A♥.
“Carpediem200” then check-called 1.4 million on the 2♥9♥J♥ flop. A 9♣ came on the turn and he checked. “BBlackkk” then bet another 1.4 million with trip nines, which elicited a check-raise from “carpediem200” to about 4.9 million. “BBlackkk” just called. Then a K♥ on the river saw “carpediem200” move all-in with his nut flush and “BBlackkk” called off his remaining 14,078,546. Just like that is was all over.
Others to cash the event were Ryan “i need sheet” Yu (18th for $2,547.22), Luke “ib6121” Schwartz (56th for $1,418.75), and Chris “Big Huni” Hunichen (268th for $724.42).

Bounty Hunter Dominance, Four Shots for WeakyLeeks
Two other WCOOP events concluded on Monday. The first was Event #02-H ($530 6-Max Progressive KO), which drew 2,943 entrants and generated two equal prize pools of $735,750 for both the regular tournament and bounty winners.
The Czech Republic’s “serevsini” not only claimed his first WCOOP title and a $106,262.93 first-place prize, but also he nabbed $81,292.66 in bounties, which was more than $74,039 Austria’s “Hoelle1” received for finishing second.
Meanwhile, in WCOOP-04-H ($530 NL Omaha Hi/Lo), the UK’s “WeakyLeeks” ended up firing four bullets to get to the final table. That is where he defeated Richard “raconteur” Gryko in heads-up play to win his first WCOOP title and the accompanying $62,354.87 top prize.
The 2017 WCOOP still has 77 events on its schedule, including the $5,200 buy-in, $10 million GTD Main Event, which offers a minimum first-place prize of $1.5 million.
