The Progressive Knockout format is the best thing BY FAR to ever happen to tournament poker.
It's just too bad that it's pretty much an online-only format. I have heard that a live casino DID run a progressive knockout tournament, but I have no idea how they kept track of the bounties, most likely they kept track online while the live tournament was running. LOL
PKO's promote action. Nobody plays poker so they can fold for hours and hours. Players play poker because they like playing poker!! PKO's encourage people to get in the ring and mix it up.
The payout for winning a PKO can be massive, larger than a regular freezeout prize structure if you crush the FT and sun-run it.
There's only one real drawback to the PKO format and its a drawback I just don't care about (for me it's not a drawback)... and that is the fact that you can make the money in a PKO and still lose profit. The payouts for the regular prize pool is cut in half in a PKO so the min-cashes are extremely minimum.
But that is a small price (small prize?) to pay for all the other benefits of a PKO.
