Many participants but few winners

Whats the best strategy to win a tournament in which there are thousands of participants but only 2, 5, 10 or 50 players get to be in the money?

better is the tournament where there are a lot of players and the prizes are big for the final table then you will immediately earn a lot of money

Variance is way too big for a tournament like this that it just seems to be a waste of time (especially the variants of 2-10 paid places). Okay, if it's 50 places paid and they are solid payments, then just play solid poker, prepare to be very patient, and understand that luck is a huuuuge factor here.

I used to play these type of game many years ago and id good in a some. I just played my normal game and it worked. Just need to avoid going broke early when many players will happy call 5 way with 72o in hopes to win a boatload of chips.

the variance in tournaments is more than more players, and you need to play a greater distance, I heard many times that even pro players end many months in the red
