Hi all , I used to play quite a few cash games online and live, these days focusing more on tournaments, and I've noticed that i keep wanting to play my cash game hand range, the QT,AT,KT,89,JT etc, playing these late in tourneys seems to be quite risky and i really have to hold my self back from playing them, i have always believed that you need 2 brains in poker, a cash game brain and a tournament brain,
I have also noticed that a lot of tournament players favour any pair into a pot, mathematically they have 1:6 chance of flopping a set (is that right? ) , so they know always have a chance of beating any other pair,
What are your thoughts and experiences on these ?
Thanks for the feedback as always :)

Pocket pair is 1 to 8 to make a set.which makes it good hand deep stacks. One big difference is the ante which makes pot bigger in mtt than cash

You definitely need to seperate mind sets when going from cash games to tournaments. They are two very different animals.

Yes, people do tend to overplay their small pairs late in a tournament. Early on, set-mining is OK while the blinds are low but later you don't want to be doing this as you will be risking way more to set-mine.

Hi, very nice advice, thanks, i have been thinking the same late tourney + small pairs, and have been folding some in early position if i have average/above stack size , and start praying that once i fold no set would have come on the flop :p
.
To add though, full houses etc mostly get made with pocket pairs .... so maybe position is more important when handling these small pairs late tourney .... ?

I like to pay close attention to the way people play at different stages of the tournament. Play is LAG at first and then tightens up in the middle as blinds go up. I also tighten my range. Then when everyone tightens up completely on the bubble I like to fire a few bluffs. Final table is a whole different animal as is heads up
