Hi Card chatters.

A quick run down.
Have not played online poker for almost 4 years due to the ban of online gaming. Started back up on GG poker mid December for some moderate success playing $5-$10 MTT.

I won a the $5 deep stack with a field size of 994, won a $3 MTT with 682 runners, $10MTT with 118, final tabled the 50 yuan MTT 3 nights in a row for a 2nd, 4th and 7th. All in all I`ve final tabled 12 times and won 3.

One thing that I am doing a lot more of then i was before the ban is 3 betting, with my strong hands and suited connectors.

Any way, the point and question I wanna ask is, I have played a couple $50-$100 MTT and I change my game a little and play a more tighter game than what I play in the $5-$10 tourneys. Almost every time when I raise, then get 3 betted then the 3 bet gets shoved, I fold, And when the cards are shown, i had the best hand. Folding AJs AQo/s JJ TT 99 to name a few.
So my question is, a should I play the same style when I play $5-$10 or stay the course?
Just didn`t think there would be as many bad players playing the higher games.

Coming from a player who plays anything from $1 - $55 (occasional $109) MTTs, you can pretty much assume to see bad play at all levels. I could probably form an argument for higher stakes being more fishy than micros - mid stakes.

Play your game, register for tournaments you are comfortable with (from a risk stand point), and have fun.

Totally agree with Jordan, don’t change your playing style that gives you good results, no matter what buy in you play. My thinking is that micro stakes is harder to beat, then middle, I play in both. Just relax, have fun and play the way you like the most.

If you play the same way you win. Why change?

Your problem is that Wins soon turn to Loose. Your on a streak of good results, keep going at that level.
Get your money in the bank not in your poker account. Buy something nice.

If you observe, that people are 3-betting more, then you should certainly adjust to that in some way, which might include:

* Opening a tighter range
* Opening to a smaller size
* Calling more 3-bets
* 4-betting more

4-betting more is the most important of any adjustment, because it also serve to calm down future 3-betting a bit. If you are playing against good aggressive regulars, its fairly normal for them to throw in some 3-bets even just to see, how you react to them. And if your reaction is fold, fold, fold, then they will continue, because they have found an excellent way to exploit you. However if they will sometimes have to deal with a 4-bet, then they will tend to back off at least a little bit. So if your 4-betting range is only aces, kings and maybe an occational AKs, then thats going to be an issue in most mid or high stakes games.

I think fundiver is right on the money. When I play higher limits in cash or tournaments the raise is almost always 2.5. Just enough to take blinds but it doesn't vest me enough I have to call large 3-bets.
I expect to get 3bet a lot and will call a lot with a big range. This will tighten villain range some because they know they can't just walk over you. A 4-bet will always help slow down villain 3bets but you really want to have live cards. This reduces my range. I'm not a huge fan of a 4bet with hands like AJ, KQ, QJ, hands that are easily dominated, but I am a fan of suited connectors which tend to play well.

Once you get comfortable playing larger pots the 4bet falls into place a little easier.

It sounds from what you write that you have established some sound habits for the game.
I think it is important to manage your selection of stakes relative to your bankroll so that fear of losing isn't a factor.
